A family-run hotel with friendly and competent staff, with original furnishings from the early 20th century in the breakfast room, a quiet room despite being close to the train station.

I highly recommend it.

although the title Merkur led us to believe it was the chain, it wasn't. Still it did not stop us enjoying the short stay. The building is old in the style of the East German buildings but everything we wanted was there.
Having phoned ahead to inform them that we were delayed due to a bomb scare enroot we arrived and booked in the only person on duty went home leaving us and the other occupants in the locked building although we had keys to get in and out. 

After a good nights sleep we had an excellent Breakfast then set off for the nearby railway station.

would I stay here again? Yes.

old Mercury.

The host Jorg  could not do enough for this allowed us to park the motorbikes in his garage. He also provide us with directions and train times.
 The hotel is older  but very good value for money with excellent service.

For the annual Christmas market visit, I had booked a room in this hotel near the train station and bus station for one night without great expectations. (From the neighbouring city of Reichenbach, I'm used to Saxon boarding houses). But I was pleasantly surprised! The owner was pleasantly surprised, the room - although coming in years - was absolutely fine, bathrooms as well. Breakfast was sufficient. So all in all: who is looking for chain hotels is wrong here, but city travelers for a short stay at this price cannot find anything comparable in this region.

City trip

This hotel is traditional and comfortable.  The proprietor is wonderful--very gracious and has great pride in the fact that this hotel is family owned for several generations.  We especially enjoyed the dining area where a buffet was set up.   All the old, fashionable fixtures -- umbrella racks,  newspaper posts, lovely table settings.  Our room was simple, clean and most comfortable.  It is within walking distance to the train station and to the center of town.   A lovely find.

VERY nice!

No trendy, top-fashioned hotel. Owned by generations of owners. Family-owned for 103 years. In the 1990s, it was once again heavily invested and renovated, all rooms were given bathrooms and modern hotel furnishings. The money for an elevator was not enough. Damage  but not a problem for busy guests. Breakfast is served in a memorable 1920s-era restaurant. Tape and furniture have been reworked, re-purposed; the cleaned brass door plans have been restored in original form. Love is a lot with the legacy! To be too fresh flowers on the table. The train stations behind the train stations, but the train stations behind the train stations are a very happy restaurant in Zwicki. The train stations have been a great pleasure to me. The train stations have been in use since the early 20s. The train stations in the city have been reworked, re-purposed, re-purposed; the cleaned brass doors have been re-purposed in original form. Love is a lot with the experience!

Lovely & hearty

I had a struggle in locating mid-priced accommodation in Zwickau for the night I stayed there.  This place showed up as full on all the hotel booking sites,  yet they accepted a reservation via their own site.  I'm sure I was one of very few stopping there. 

The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from Zwickau main station.  That was key for me,  but a bit longer then into the town centre. 

Entrance and reception area were dark and gloomy which overall was the same throughout.  Checked in OK and as I was leaving at 0530 in the morning I was asked to pay.  Stairs up to the corridor to my room again a bit faded.  Room again was basic, clean and nothing broken as such.  However it all looked very out of date and in need of updating.  Bathroom was OK,  the shower head had to be handheld otherwise everything else was acceptable. 

For the price,  this was still a little disappointing.  I wasn't expecting luxury but really feel this place could be modernised. 

Old and faded

I have stayed here in the past, and was very happy with my previous experience at the Merkur Garni, and I was not disappointed this time.
A very friendly welcome, and a good comfortable room equipped with a tv and mini-bar.
Also very clean.
The breakfast in the restaurant on the ground floor is good and substantial.
2 minutes walk from the station, and just a few minutes walk into the delightful centre of town.
The price of a room here is very reasonable.
If you are into cars, the Horch Museum is a must see and is a 25 minute walk, or just a short bus ride away.
Enjoy your stay in Zwickau.
For excursions, try Leipzig, Dresden, Weimar and Erfurt. All easily reachable by train.

Traditional Hotel with a Friendly Welcome

I had a night out. A suite. The room was bright, quiet, clean. No flat screen, but please... was very friendly. I had some trouble accessing the Internet, but I was helped immediately. The train station is only a short walk away. Still no camping. Nice quiet place, nice quiet city. Who knows big towns (so now not Regensburg or Bochum) will already know the difference.

Stone throwing

The hotel promises this as the year of construction says.This hotel gives the impression that a euro has been invested in the past years and in the future.The entrance area is cloudy,stained and very dark.The carpets have run through and no one should walk barefoot through the rooms just to avoid the fungus.The bed that was lying out reminded me a bit of a coffin.The skin or hair follicles of my predecessors were worse but they were right on my body.The TV was meant to be 15 years or older and so small that I had to put them on the bed to see what was happening.Fazit:Maybe someone really angry or had a relationship, but then you're welcome to this cash register.
