Fantastic
4 reviewsWe stayed at Weingut & Gaestezimmer Peter during our visit to the Durkheimer Wurstmarkt. We booked a family room for four adults, and the "Dornfelder" room had a bed, a very comfortable full size flip-out bed, a large entry room with a cafe table, a small closet-style kitchenette, and a very clean private daylight bathroom. The Peter family is kind and accommodating. The proprietress speaks English. We were able to see their wine operation on premises, and we purchased some of their wine before leaving. Guests can try their wine throughout the day in the tasting room/cafe. Breakfast is served in the bright and inviting tasting room, and it included the normal meats, cheeses and breads, but also homemade specialty jams and few organic and even gluten-free selections. It was wonderful. There is a little traffic noise since this room is close to the road and a little bit of kitchen noise, but we are early risers, so it really didn't bother us, especially when we could enjoy the great breakfast. There is plenty of local tourism information provided in the room and in the tasting room to plan your day. And again, everything was exceptionally clean and pleasant. We walked the pleasant 3 km to the festival in Bad Duerkheim a couple of times from the guesthouse. You walk through some scenic windy roads and past grape fields to get to the lovely town. We took the taxi back one night (be sure to tell the driver "Wachenheim an der Weinstrasse" to get to the right place), and it was EUR 12. Wachenheim an der Weinstrasse is also lovely itself, with many historic things to see there as well, so plan some time to walk this town. We wanted to see the nearby Roman country house, but had to leave too soon. It is a great starting point to try many of the wonderful wines of this region, and the end of September was a great time to visit!
