Senne-Hotel Garni

Spent several days staying in the Senne Hotel Garni. Although we only used it as a base it was great. Being mid January (not the best time for us warm blooded South Africans to visit Germany) the weather was cold and it snowed on several occasions with the snow actually settling..... I have of course experienced snow before but never really seen it settle and stay put for so many days except in the higher parts of a few mountains in the RSA. We ate breakfast at the hotel everyday and it was fine. The rooms were sufficiently spacious for the two of us sharing and the bedding was nice and comfortable. The central heating worked well but (just like every where else I suppose) tends to dry out the air and this meant that one needs to take special care of your skin and I would recommend that anyone not used to such conditions (does settled snow mean that in general the air is dry?) to generously make use of moisturizer. The village around the hotel is quaint and I suppose being at the height of winter the locals get indoors and stay there..... we on the other hand went for several long walks along the roads and observed that after 6 in the evening (being so far north it was of course dark already) in such a (German) rural area that the hustle and bustle around us had simmered down quite substantially. This is not a negative or positive comment but purely an observation. the landlord at the hotel was most helpful (as we had already experienced elsewhere in Germany on this trip) and dealt with any issue politely and efficiently. After our business was concluded we stayed an additional two nights to do some site seeing. We had informed the landlord that we would on the Saturday we intended to rise very early to go on a day outing to Amsterdam... we were probably the only guests staying over the weekend (it is more of a business hotel in mid winter season) and yet even though we did not expect her to she was awake by the time we got down and breakfast was ready for us....good service. Overall we enjoyed the stay and were able to get good nights rest during our stay there ....and of course i was able to get my morning and evening cuppa by using the coffee vending machine (free of charge) stationed in the hallway by the elevators. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that needs to be in the Bielefeld area of Germany.
