Hotel Goldner Stern

This family owned hotel is situated in a lovely location on the Rhine River in the small town of Kestert and is an ideal base to both stay and also explore the region. Two hour parking is generally available on the road kerbside (no restriction between 8pm and 11am) directly outside the hotel or alternatively, 50 metres from the hotel in an open car park. Our room (which overlooked the Rhine) was spacious, adequately furnished and included a separate sitting room and large bathroom which was spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable (with extra pillows happily supplied upon request) and Wi-Fi worked efficiently. Whilst there are trains constantly running on the opposite bank of the river, noise was not a factor and did not impact on the quality of sleep. The hotel has a lovely terrace where one can have a relaxing drink taking in the never ending passing traffic on the river, or even enjoy meals (including breakfast) providing the weather is appropriate. There is also a nicely furnished restaurant and bar within the hotel and we enjoyed dinner on the two evenings of our stay, with both the quality of food and pricing being good. Whilst the menu is in German, the owner of the hotel speaks English and can assist with food options which are predominantly German cuisine. Breakfast comprised a buffet format with an excellent selection of fruit, yoghurts, cereals, cold meats, cheeses and the like, including pastries. Cooked eggs to guests liking are also available upon request. Finally, the hotel also has Wellness Centre where one can have a massage and use the sauna. The owner and staff were extremely friendly and hospitable during our stay and for a 3 star hotel, we could have not asked for more. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have no hesitation in recommending Hotel Goldner Stern.
