Hotel Zum Alten Ponyhof

One of those places you never thought you'd see and we didn't plan to either. However, because of unexpected car problems we spent a night at the hotel and was blown away by the charm and kindness of the staff. We've been to more modern hotels with more extravagant facilities but Hotel Zum Alten Ponyhof doesn't need extravagance. It has charm and personality. We woke up to a view of a horde of horses outside the window surrounded by an amazing landscape and it continued a fantastic breakfast buffet downstairs. Of course this was also themed as an old horse ranch, german style. As if the it wasn't enough experiencing the charming hotel, they also have a restautant 2 mins away down the street in the tiny town of Niemegk. It was like stepping into a time pocket - As soon as we opened the door, the smell of quality traditional food came over us. The food is simple and local and very, very tasty. The pricing was very reasonable and the decor was also themed around horses and horse riding. Neither the hotel or the restaurant is the most luxurious we've visited but it gave us so much more, a tiny bite of something real. Our car got fixed on the same day so we didn't get a chance to spend a second night there but this hidden treasure is definitely worth a second visit. 5 stars for a fantastic experience
