Appartementhaus Obertrave

We stayed for five nights over Christmas and were completely happy with the apartment in almost every respect, wifi was fine, the apartment (Suite Obertrave) was very large with a separate bedroom with a double plus a single bed, kitchen and bathroom and a large lounge with a double bed in it as well as a comfortable sofa and dining table. The view was out over the river and you could see the turrets of the Holsteintor peering out from behind the buildings opposite. A great location, a few minutes into the town centre and all the shops you could hope for while being amazingly peaceful. There is commentary about the check in delay, we phoned from the station before setting out for the apartment (we walked with wheeled luggage from the main station which took 15 minutes) and there was someone waiting to let us in and show us around by the time we got there so my advice would be to call ahead and they'll be ready for you. There is no elevator and several flights of steps so be ready to carry your own luggage up three flights of stairs. The apartment is very well equipped but is showing its age, two of the cooker rings didn't work due to the knobs not functioning and the decor is looking a bit tired, we got the feeling that a couple of days with a competent handyman in attendance could make all the difference. Having said that, we were delighted to stay there, it was a perfect space for our Christmas day lock in and an easy walk to the Ratskeller for Christmas lunch on Boxing day - the goose was truly exceptional.
