Haus Miramar

Three Generations of the Conradi family have run this hotel since 1957.It consists of 3 buildings: Haus Hanseat, Haus Nickels, and Haus Miramar. My reservation was for Haus Nickels but when I arrived I was transferred to Haus Miramar. I am not complaining, I had a large Ocean front room with a million dollar view. Haus Miramar is listed as a hotel but has the feel and comfort of a B&B and rooms the size of apartments. My accommodations consisted of a small living room and a large bedroom complete with King size bed and the 2 areas were separated only by a flat screen tv afixed to a pole. I could turn the tv around to face either the couch or bed. It was kinda nice to start watching a movie on the couch and then shift the tv around when tired to finish in comfort of my bed.The halls were decorated with arts and craft style decorations that embraced a seaside theme and there was a small backyard to make you feel at home. The entire front wall of my room was dominated by glass panels and doors providing a virtual North sea Panorama.I even had a small patio. A room of this quality with a seaside view, in lets say Cape Cod, would easily be 4x the price. So, despite the fact that Helgoland is a tough commute I consider my $81 Euro investment a bargain. Breakfast was included and was a more than adequate mix of hot and cold servings which even included a beer dispenser.Don't miss breakfast as in winter most of the local restaurants don't open until dinner. I will definitely return to this mystical island and Miramar will be my first pick for lodgings.
