We have been going to the Pension Waldheim for fourteen years,we would not go anywhere else!.We find the place clean quirky and welcoming and very friendly,with a good breakfast and also good prices.i recommend this place to you.

The brilliant Pension Waldheim! Gunterstal Freiburg

The lady who ran this place was the most unwelcoming person and dishonest person I've ever met and I'm writing this review so that others avoid the mistake of booking this place as we did. 

I booked Pension Waldheim with the expectation that it was a highly reviewed place. 
We came late, about 21:30 and we informed Pension Waldheim via booking.com of this before arrival. I told the lady, that we are very tired and that we would like to sleep in, and therefore we will be checking out at 11:00 as it says in the description. 

We had left Tubingen around 15:30 that day and we visited some famous castles in the region during the evening and we had not had the time to eat, however, we brought some food which you only need some boiled water for, to eat before we went to bed. 

When we arrive in the evening we were tired, hungry and sweaty. So I have a shower and because there is no water cooker in the room I go downstairs to look for a water heater. I open the door to the kitchen and the lady is sitting there and I ask her if there is a water boiler here in the kitchen that I could use just for a late snack. 

She asks me very rudely why I'm not in bed because I had told her that I was very tired. She says it's very late, that an entire hour has gone by, and really shames me for not having gone to bed already (I don't want to go into it word by word but I have never been so verbally abused and shamed for something so ridiculous). I respond by saying I had a shower and before we sleep we would just like to heat some water so we don't go to bed hungry. 

The lady tells me that I should have read in the booking.com description that no water heater in the room and that I can't under any circumstances boil some water, she continues by saying that this is not a hostel. I apologize completely shocked. I went to bed hungry and I did not feel welcome here. I understand that I am 25 and I might look as if I belong in a hostel to this lady. However, I am a paying guest and under no circumstances was the verbal abuse I received acceptable. This whole situation blew my mind. In the morning the lady had cancelled my booking. This confirms to me that she also knew that her behaviour was not okay, as my guess is that she did this to make sure that I would not write a review. This is the reason I decided to take the time and write because this wasn't okay and as a guest, I have never been this badly treated, ever, by anyone. 

I want people to know this place is not honest and this lady is not a good person. 

Apart from that, the place did not live up to the standard I expected. We did not feel welcome here at all. 

The wifi is sketchy. 
The showers aren't very good. 
The room was drafty and cold, the radiator did not work and there were not enough blankets. 
On top of that, we both went to bed hungry.

The lady who runs this place verbally abused me and cancelled my booking so I would not write a review about it.

We were lucky to stay at Waldheim during our stay in Freiburg! 

Arriving from Florence, we were astonished with the serenity and calmness of this absolutely beautiful city. Waldheim is easily accessible, tram is literally just outside the building. 

Owners are both very kind and pleasant people, happy to chat. The rooms are clean and quiet, yet charming. 

A little brook runs right outside the room, granting a calm soundtrack for your stay. 

Breakfast is delicious and coffee is plenty. Bathrooms are dormitory, but very clean and they have several.

Outside surroundings are dashing. Wide spread meadows and big hills with a rich variety of flora. 

Go visit the St. Lioba monastery, a ten-minute walk away, it has a lovely garden and view.

We had a lovely time at charming Waldheim, in fact we ended up spending yet another night there, and we would strongly recommend it to anyone who's going to Freiburg!

We stayed here when we were holidaying in Freiburg.

It was right on the tram line so was easy to get in and out of town. We liked the town of Günterstal too and enjoyed looking around and being out of the busy city.

It was quiet and peaceful, and felt like a friendly local hotel with a great atmosphere, food and drink.

The host also spoke English, which was brilliant when we were very tired and struggling with our German!

We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Freiburg.

Great place to stay.

I stayed one night at Gasthaus Waldheim. The House is small and with a lot of decoration. Do you want to stay in a very typical German hotel? Go to the Gasthaus! People are really nice and welcome you to their table without any problem. The room is small but very functional and VERY clean! You will find there typical old German decoration and toys for children. The owner is really funny and adorable, the staff even makes the effort to speak French! The price is very affordable, food really good: A Very good value for money!

This hotel has parking just outside on the street, and is very convenient if you have a car. The town center is a short drive away, and is also close to other points of interests (mountains) in Frieburg. Very good service, and breakfast is available.

Great place to stay

I think this hotel has great atmosphere, I am pretty sure that if anyone has problem with their sleep, he or she might sleep very well in this place, the air was so fresh. I definitely recommend this hotel to anybody who has time to enjoy this amazing town.
