35 reviewsFantastic hotel in small town of Ettal. Second time for our friends but a first for us. Stayed in the back building with gorgeous views of the mountains. Free small buffet breakfast each morning but perfect way to start the day. Took the train(10 minutes away) twice to Munich for Octoberfest and downtown Munich. 1 1/2 hour ride through the countryside. Ms. Fischer who runs the hotel could not have been nicer. Some nights we sat on the front patio to enjoy our own happy hour and she provided ice bucket and glasses for our wine and beer. Beautiful town of Garmisch (1936Winter Olympics) is only 15 minutes away. Park and just walk through the downtown area to see beautiful murals on most buildings, unique shopping and many restaurants. Easy drive to King Ludwig's two castles. Ettal Abbey is right across the street and should be visited. Several good restaurants near by but be sure to check with them on when they are open. Italian restaurant next door has good food but opens and closes randomly. Restaurant across the street is closed on Fridays. Hotel down the street has two restaurants but both may not be open.
