Travelling from The Netherlands to Italy we decided to stay here for the night. And it was a very pleasant surprise!

Reception was friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. Food in the restaurant is no haute cuisine, but good. Location and view were amazing; we felt like on holiday instantly.

No breakfast in the hotel, but being by car it was no problem to have breakfast at the bakery down in the village.

Sited 800 metres up, which on a good day would give great views towards the Alps, Lake Constance etc.  (not their fault it was misty) Greeted warmly.  Good well equipped room and bathroom with rather unusual sitting area all in dark red. Good hearty German food in restaurant. But strangely no breakfast served because restaurant and accommodation operate separately. But directed to a bakery down in Engen which provided excellent breakfast.

Great stop on our voyage

Great hilltop location

The surroundings and the view from the terrace is spectacular. We came here for coffee and cake and were disappointed, though. The service was quite confused and the cakes and coffees were served without passion and were of poor quality. Especially the ice coffee we had tasted very bitter and was made out of instant coffee using too much instant powder. 

Nice location with a great but view but with bad food

Avoid this hotel. I booked one night through booking.com. Hotel policy was given in the confirmation email as "If cancelled or modified up to 3 days before date of arrival no fee will be charged. If cancelled or modified later, 80 percent of the total price of the reservation will be charged. In case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged."
The cancellation costs, with specific dates, were then given. 

I was on foot and when the weather turned unseasonably snowy, I decided to cut short my walking tour. Check-in was to be after 12 on the Tuesday and I telephoned at 1030 on the Saturday morning to cancel my reservation. As a walker, I had no access to internet, and could not cancel online. However, I spoke to a man, introduced myself, explained the situation and apologized. In my naivety I even said I looked forward to visiting another time!

I was therefore surprised to find that booking.com sent me a no-show notification and informed me that the hotel would be taking 100 per cent of the fee. The agency was unable to reason with the hotelier and the hotel has ignored my emails (all communication with the hotel has been in German). Booking.com refuses to send me a review template, as I did not actually stay at the hotel, and so I rely on Tripadvisor to prevent other travellers from being cheated...

I informed the hotel by telephone more than 3 days before check-in, and in my heart of hearts believe that I should - under stated hotel "policy" - not be charged anything. However, the dates for cancellation were spelt out in the confirmation email, and so I could not really complain if I had been charged 80 per cent. 

But this hotel is being downright dishonest in claiming "no-show" and in charging 100 per cent. 

I am a very frequent visitor to Germany, and this is absolutely NOT typical of German hotels and bed and  breakfast establishments.

So pick another hotel. There are lots of decent, honest establishments. Avoid this hotel, whose "policy" it is to lie and cheat.

Dishonest hotelier

Nice location. Beautiful nature around.  Calm.  Unfortunately -  Very bad  and not comfortable, not very safety  rooms, especially chandeliers.   No Wi-FI in the rooms.     Stinky  corridors  , some rooms are without toilets.
