Waldhaus Wolfental

We stayed here for 4 nights, just before Christmas, and were more or less the only guests in the hotel. Christian, the owner, was a very attentive and helpful host. My wife and I speak enough German to get by which is often a plus in that part of the world often ignored by British tourists. There are really good and beautiful walks in the surrounding forest which, at this time of year takes a very eerie look. 6 miles away is the little pretty town of Bar Dürkheim, one of the regional centre of the Rhine wine industry. We managed to visit a few wineries and taste a wide variety of excellent wines (white and red) that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. Speaking a few words of German opens up many doors, especially in fully booked restaurants were, after a few words the owners always managed to find a table for the two of us. The hotel is also very well located to tour the region. it is very comfortable, reasonably priced and breakfast was good and plentiful. Our room was the one with a balcony overlooking the forest, so very peaceful.
