Melia Berlin

We were stopping in Berlin for a few days whilst in Germany. We wanted to do some very basic tourist things (the zoo, a history walk and a river tour) and had no idea where to stay. I ended up choosing the Melia as it seemed to tick a few boxes and we were VERY HAPPY with our choice. Firstly we walked to the hotel from the HauptBahnhof (central train station) which took about 20 mins with suitcases. It is a very simply route but getting the S bahn would have been a much quicker option as Friedrichstrasse station is about 100m from the hotel and is one stop from HauptBahnhof. This is also very useful when needing to travel around the city such as going to the zoo. Also, usually you can get the S bahn directly to and from the airport but that line was suspended for the time we were here. The hotel is located right on the junction with a bridge so very easy to find. The reception team were friendly and welcoming and there are facilities around the hotel such as a gym (small but definitely usable if you know what you are doing), a sauna and a tapas restaurant (which we don’t get a chance to try). Our room (I think it was called a family suite) was large with super comfy beds. The bathroom was a slightly dated style but excellently appointed - with double sinks, separate loo, walled shower and full bath. The breakfast was nice, covering both English and the continental styles. All seemed very fresh and we all found things we liked. Back to the location: we found it very central for getting to the tours we had booked yet as it was by the river it felt very open and not over crowded. All in all we are very happy with our choice of hotel and if we had to go back to Berlin tomorrow we would go back to the Meliá!
