The hotel is located outside of the city center.  The owners are very pleasant.  The rooms are located behind the hotel/restaurant and very quiet.   We ate breakfast selection of food was good.   We also ate dinner at the attached Biergarten and the food was delicious.   We would stay here again if we come back to them area .   Linda - the castle visit was good

This is a traditional family run hotel with friendly staff. We only booked it due to a Ryanair strike at short notice. The hotel is a couple of miles out of town but in a pretty location. There are no restaurants or shops around, but the hotel has a bar and serves food, which was good value. Try the lasagne!

The location was perfect for us - at the outskirts of Bamberg at about 35 minutes walking distance from city center. A nice, quiet place. From our room's window we had a great view over the city park (a real forest). The breakfast was nice and everything was fresh. The beer garden and the restaurant are a real treat when you come back from long hours of visiting the city or the surrounding areas. It is nice to be able to enjoy a beer (or a nice glass of wine) and a hot meal on the terrace without having to get in the car and drive to your accommodation. The family running the place is very nice and friendly. It is not a new building and for those looking for modern and luxury that is not the place to be. But it is clean and functional and the price is right. I would advise for a room with private bathroom (like ours). It was 90 euros/night but it was worth it. It also had a free private parking place. The wi-fi quality in the room was not so great in the evening but in the morning it was ok. I'd like to come back some day...

Interesting hotel

Nice and peaceful

The hotel location is nice and peaceful - about 35 mins walk along the river to the city centre; a bike would be perfect or there is a good bus service. The staff were friendly and helpful and they do a good breakfast buffet. My room was clean and adequate for my requirements but the shared toilet/bathroom along the corridor was not great: there are 2 toilet cubicles and 2 shower cubicles for both men and women. There was not enough room in the shower to dry yourself and get changed, also when I was there the shower wasn't draining away, so I was standing in a puddle while trying to dry myself. Apart from this, I enjoyed staying at the hotel. They also have free parking, which few of the city-centre hotels can offer.

Lovely location, adequate room, nice breakfast

I would have given three stars but I can't really say I recommend this place.

You have to consider that Bamberg is REALLY expensive and this is one if the cheapest places going at €60 for a double sharing a bathroom with free parking, free breakfast (which was very good) and a bus into town that stops right outside. These were selling points.

However, it was not a nice place to stay. The toilets were old and stank of stale urine, and the room we were given (6) was incredibly old and pokey... woodchip wallpaper in yellow and all the doors were plywood and shoddy or unpainted. The tiny window was a struggle to open and looked onto a high bank of grass wasteland. I think some rooms have been renovated from the sound of other reviews, but ours wasn't. The beds were twins and too bulky to push together. I asked if she had any doubles and she said no, but offered for us to move to room 1, a quad room which was therefore much more spacious and the beds weren't as bulky. That seemed much better (but still needed decorating) but that night we discovered we were overlooking the beer garden and there were very noisy people below until about 11.30pm. The beds weren't very comfortable either.

There were two showers for the whole floor (mixed) which were fine, and two toilet cubicles in the same mixed bathroom. The only private toilet was unventilated, except by the hallway. And they all smelled bad.

We went into town on the bus in the evening but discovered the return buses stopped at about 7.30pm so we had to get a taxi back which wiped out the saving of staying here.

As I said before, the breakfast was good. But we should have stumped up 10 more euros and stayed somewhere else.

Cheapest in town

I made a reservation in spring and came to hotel in august just to find out by the staff that they are overbooked. It was late, we were driving from Berlin for quite some hours, were very tired and just wanted to get some sleep, so it was very dissapointing. The staff even admited that a large group came to hotel that very day and so they gave them our room. We were just lost for words. This is not how you do tourism!
