Having just returned from Gambia staying at my Favourite guest house Kotu island lodge having a enjoyable stay where I met old friends and new I highly recommend this guest house is situated not far from Palma rima  and Kotu Big thanks  to Terry  Maybe and all Staff for looking after me during my stay I can't wait to return to Kotu island lodge next year highly recommended for anyone looking to Book up a guest house in Gambia See you Next year

Excellent and comfortable accommodation!!  The friendly  Team who run this place do a wonderful job.

Every morning there is a delicious an abundant breakfast,  beside that,  the Ladies from the kitchen  prepare exquisite meals. The place is immaculately clean. Location is very convenient, with a nice garden and eating area, close to several supermarkets, restaurants, and money changers, also close to the beach, and highway to take a taxi everywhere.

The first day, somebody (Mr Abbu) went with me to show me how to get around. The property does  cheap pick up from the airport, besides they do a cheap taxi service to tourist sides.

Thanks to the Team Kotu Island Lodge; Mr Pai, Mr Abbu, Mr Foday Mr Philip Mr Ousman, Misses Binta, Umi, Fatu, Anna and Philomena I had a great time in Gambia, and I certainly will stay at this place again if I was to visit Gambia a next time!

Peaceful and comfortable comaccomodation to stay in Gambia

My first impressions of the Lodge were how clean it was. Its positioned in a walled compound which is very safe and the large metal gate is locked all the time, with security to let you in all night. Its a bit out of the way but a 200 meter walk takes you to the main road. The manager has a taxi and will run you anywhere for a small fee. My room was one of the larger ones with a shower and a toilet in some have a shared bathroom, i would definitely go for the larger rooms. I am returning to the Lodge in 2018 and have booked the same room. The room has a large fan over the bed which is very effective. The room is kept very clean and tidy by the cleaners. The breakfast is very basic with eggs jam and bread and plenty of tea or coffee. I dont eat much in the mornings so that was fine for me. You can order other meals which you have to pay for which were reasonably priced and tasty all made by the happy chef. The drinks were also reasonably priced a bottle of Julbrew 50d and a double G&T with a Schwepps tonic water 135d must admit I had a few of them. All the staff were extremely friendly and there was a lot of them. There is a small garden with sunbeds in which was very pleasant and was frequented by some amazingly coloured birds as a bird watcher I found very interesting. A couple of nice touches are the manager will pick you up at the airport also use of the safe is free. Just one complaint get rid of those horrible table cloths with the fag burns in they just spoil the dinning area. Like I say I am back in Feb 2018 so I can not recommend it any more.

I stayed at the Lodge from 5th November to 22nd November 2017 on a bed & breakfast basis.

The room was Ok and was cleaned every day but there was a problem with the cesspit which was full. This caused a blockage of the toilet and the drainage system for the shower. Each time I flushed the toilet, dirty sewage water would come up from the shower drain on the floor. They took three days to fix it. The food was disgusting because they had sacked the proper cook and everybody from the gate-man/woman to the security man was doing the cooking. The manager was useless at organising anything and only seem to care when he was making money on the side. The lodge was like a brothel...Local women were constantly coming and going. I had booked in for three months but I checked out in three weeks.

Very poor service

Location: It is around 250 meters away from the main road and there is almost nothing around here. Although, there are plenty of taxis for 8 Dalasi (0.16 USD) to the Senegambia Strip or wherever you want to go. Thus, it is a good cost performance. The place has no pool, no aircon (at least in my room). 
It is in a quiet, residential area and the people around there are friendly and they all say "hi." The area is safe as well. You don't have to worry about anything. 

The place: 
It's a pretty small lodge, probably has around 10 rooms or so. My room was pretty spacious and had an ensuite bathroom. The room was very clean and the place is generally always very clean. There is a backup generator in case the electricity goes off. 

The food there is excellent as well. Most meals are around the 250 price range and much cheaper than the restaurants outside and tasted better. 

There is a small bar and there is alcohol provided. 

They have satellite TV. 

Overall, the place is an excellent choice if you are on a budget and want to minimize costs. I stayed there alone for 15 Euros for a night during the low season. It might be more in the high season. 

I definitely would stay here again since it is away from the hustle and bustle and can be at peace. The beach is around 1.5km away or a quick taxi ride.
