I was working in Gabon as a forester near Ombour and have always been a fan of Hotel Olako the way things are maintained its awesome. It arranges everything for you right from transport from Port Gentil to Omboue very safe motor boat with a co-operative motor man. The travel time to Obmoue from Port Gentil is 3 hrs & 30 mins.
The food and ambiance is excellent. Also the rooms are always neat and tidy. It was a wonderful experience with all the hotel employees they are very kind and co-operative. Specially the evening time near the beach is very pleasing.

Hotel Olako is situated in Omboué, right on the shores of the Fernan Vaz lagoon. It's a very nicely decorated hotel offering most amenities with very friendly staff. The dining room on stilts over the Lagoon is a great place to have your evening drink or to enjoy the buffet dinner. Rooms are simple, with ensuite bathrooms and aircon. There is also an "Annexe", a few hundred metres from the main building providing more rooms (although I have not checked them out). Nestor the Manager is a reliable source of information on the region and activities and like the rest of the staff he is helpful and friendly. The Hotel actually has a few excursions organised to make the most of your stay in the Omboué region. The only drawback in my opinion is the price of these excursions, but comparing to those the nearby Loango Lodge offers I guess it's not too bad... Omboué is a sleepy town but is a great change from where we live actually, busy oil-fed Port-Gentil. All in all a great little week end break, in a very nice hotel!

I stopped over here enroute to Evengue Island and Loango National Park. Africa´s Eden private planes from Port Gentil to Loango no longer have permission to fly, so they use the Hotel Olaka´s comfortable 20 seat hydrofoil type boat to do the journey in 3 hours and 15 minutes (with no breaks). This boat leaves a few times a week in either direction. They also have a smaller boat (open to rain and sun) leaving on other days. The big boat costs 20,000 CFA in either direction. The little boat a bit less.

I did not actually spend a night here but did ask them to show me a room and spent many hours here waiting for ongoing transportation. They have 7 comfortable rooms and they  are all clean. Cost is $150 a single.

They have a restaurant right on the water an the other one in front of the main hotel wing a short distance way, which is very popular with expat staff for lunch. (There is an oil and gas project.) Like most places in Gabon the food is good.

From Olako you can go on mangrove tours, visit Evengue Island  and the gorilla sanctuary and vist St. Anne´s Church (prefabricated construction by Gustav Eiffel). 

Evengue Island is 45 minutes away and  a bit more remote and it is better to stay there if you can afford it. (See my review.) BuUt Olakao is a good alternative option if you can´t get in there.
