The resort needs a few repairs. Overall however very good considering how remote and small the island is. Make sure you have a booking with breakfast as breakfast booked locally is very expensive. The staff is not very flexible, for divers which have a early pickup (like 7:10 or similar) breakfast starts at 6:45. the staff will not open the door one minute earlier despite several people standing in line waiting....

We had booked a sailing on a Lagoon Catamaran 620 in the month of April.  The flights from Papeete did not allow us to arrive the day of the sailing (we would have missed the departure time), so we needed a place to stay overnight.  The Mai Tai was the perfect choice for us.  They picked us up at the airport and we had a pleasant overnight stay.  In the morning we had a nice breakfast overlooking the water, and we had arranged transfer to the Tiputa pier to catch our boat.  Everyone was very pleasant.

Nice stay

Hotel upgraded us from Tapa to Vini bungalow which was larger & had an ocean view with daily house keeping service. Our beds & pillows were our only complaint....not the most comfy. Open air restaurant on the water was nice. Pool is nice & was redone while we were there. Shuttle service was waiting on us at airport. Hotel staff was very nice. after checking out the competition we hope to return to Le Maitai Rangiroa in Feb 2024.

What a wonderful resort with really friendly staff, amazing bungalows right on the ocean and just a great ambience. We were here for the diving, and we dove with Topdive, who picked us up every day right on time and the diving was utterly magnificent, with dolphins, and huge huge hammerheads and tiger sharks, and just an experience of a life time. This is a wonderful spot on Rangiroa and would highly recommend.

Fantastic stay

Lovely snorkeling from the dock. The pool was okay. The bed was not very comfortable and the sheets rode up leaving us touching a bare mattress (ick!).  Lots of scary dogs in the area, including the abutting property. Restaurant menu is very limited. One waitress answered every question with "no." Asked for cocounut, "no," but they have some! Okay. Asked for ketchup "no," the next waitress said yes of course. Seemed like she didn't want to work, like we were an annoyance.

Most importantly, on Jan 2, a pack of dogs mauled a MaiTai guest on the road behind the hotel – broker her arm and tore up both legs.  We found out about it from talking to her and her husband.  When asked, the front desk said that it happens, the dogs are supposed to be euthanized, but often are not, and not ing else.  The hotel did not make any attempt to notify anyone of this danger – we left the next day as planned, and were never told by the hotel or warned to be cautious on the road.

The rest of the facility was mediocre at best:  Ants everywhere in the room – on the bathroom counter and on the desk in the main room.  No shower curtain – had to ask three times before one showed up (we were traveling with our teenager).  No beach towels at the front desk most of the time (and a shrug from the front desk staff).  Expensive airport transfers ($20 RT pp – for a less than a five minute drive each way).  The pool is tiny (the photos on Tripadvisor are taken with a wide-angle lens).

Lagoon rooms are “waterfront”, but there is no way INTO the water from the rooms – sea wall, rocks and sharp coral – so only way into the water is near the dock.  There is also a high hedge in front of each water-side patio of these bungalows, obstructing the view (really odd) – hedge not in website photos, look at TA recent photos.

Mostly unhelpful front desk people – terrible communication about reservation before arrival, often not willing to perform tasks, not helpful with excursions, difficult checkout.  TERRIBLE and surly service in the (very expensive) restaurant – expect to wait an hour for your food.  Ie:  my dinner came 25 minutes after the other three in my party the first night.

Literally almost NOTHING else in the area – only Chez Rio restaurant across the street and the grocery store (neither with consistent hours and mostly closed) – no idea if other things closed, but do not believe any maps you see.  Snorkeling of their dock is not great.  Our party that were scuba diving thought the scuba wasn’t great either.

Overall, a disappointing and a bit scary of an island visit.

Dangerous area (dog attack) and mediocre hotel

Fabulous location and the staff were always friendly, professional and helpful. They went out of their way to accommodate us, baked me a surprise cake for my birthday and always had a smile. On the downside, limited shade poolside and bicycles were very run down.

Exceptional service and beautiful snorkeling

Beautiful hotel at a beautiful island. Right at the ocean. The owners are very friendly, the cabins are nice, the pool is awesome, and the food is also great. As a bonus, you are right next door to the market. And if you are a diver or snorkeler, Rangiroa is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Loved the staff and any one working there always will to help my only thing is some of sheets should be upgraded and never seen cushion on outside chairs maybe my bad maybe missed them and pack with snacks but trip of a life

The hotel is located on the lagoon side and has a beautiful dock and pool. it has a wonderful restaurant with seating along the dock and inside. We had most of our meals here. They serve a wonderful morning buffet and extensive afternoon and evening menu
The staff were attentive, helpful and very friendly. The beds were comfortable the air conditioner effective.
