This place is lovely, extremely clean, right on the beach, free kayaks and wifi, basic shared kitchen facilities.
Beware it is backpacker quality accommodation though, no hot water (but honestly we didn't need it), basic furnishings, shared facilities except for one ensuite room.
Great location, just down the road from some small supermarkets, a bank, and several snack bars/ restaurants nearby offering dine in or takeaway.
We were there in windy season but the beachfront rooms were surprisingly sheltered. The sea was not really calm enough to swim in most of the time though, and the noise from the waves at night eas loud, but fine once you get used to it.
Cindy, her son and the lady that cleans the rooms were all super friendly and helpful.

A pleasant stay

Great spot in quiet area close to Avatoru. Great food at the Snack Shack (name is deceiving as it's high quality food with a good variety of entrees, and the desserts are awesome) as well as a great place to meet some nice locals (I miss Stephen already, thanks for help translating!). Owners Cindy and Jean Louis are very friendly and helpful. Groceries available within a very short walk.
Good access through the reef for snorkeling to the far left (look for the opening, sandy bottom). Excellent value if you can handle a more rustic experience and take care of yourself. Will be back next year but will add another week.

Great Time

The pension Rangiroa plage has the best bathing spot in Rangiroa for lazy days! The room is right by the beach, ideal for a morning swim. Cindy and Jean louis are really nice and helpful, and they will cook you a nice dinner at the snack right next door! Best sunset with a cold beer 😊 and a good place to try rebreather! We will come back!

Right on the beach

Cindy and her team here keep a great little spot. Prime location lagoon side and close to town. The reef out front is great for snorkelling with harmless yet very curious black tip sharks. The premise is basic but cleaned throughly every day. There is a shared kitchen, outdoor living room facing the lagoon, covered pick nick tables and free kayaks. There is also a snack bar onsite. I experienced a tummy bug while on vacation and Cindy showed great kindness and care.

Warm, friendly and amazing location

Rangiroa is a fascinating atoll with beautiful clear beaches along the lagoon side, offering wonderful swimming, snorkeling and scuba opportunities. The rocky beach and wilder waves of the Pacific are just a short walk across the atoll.  There is a resort with overwater bungalows, but otherwise amenities are few.  Take a water taxi from the pier to the beach or walk along the road on the Pacific side, then cut across the atoll to the beach.  Truly an idyllic remote escape.

Idyllic Beach

Although the coral beach is beautiful, there is little else this place offers. The sharks,  fish, and beautiful water that other reviewers mention - this is standard all over the island and the beauty of this beach is overshadowed by the unpleasantness of the pension. 

The rooms are very bare-bones - not very clean or comfortable. Thankfully we did not end up with a non-beach view as those rooms open up into a dark make-shift community kitchen which was a bit depressing. Our room was never cleaned and no fresh towels during our stay. The shower had hairy slime coming up through the drain and the floors had weird insect made piles of dirt on them every morning. The others on our dive trips stayed at other pensions on the island. They thought our place was a 'dump' when they visited and were shocked at how expensive it was for what you get.

Unfortunately, campers on the beach took over much of the lounge area with their gear, hanging laundry and constant cigarette smoking (so much for fresh air). There are bikes available for a fee but they are old and rusted and almost all had flat tires. We did not encounter the owner, Cindy, until the third night. When we asked for ideas for what to do on our Sunday off, she recommended a pearl farm tour and gave no other helpful information about what the island had to offer. We rode the bikes all the way out to the pearl farm in the heat only to find out 1) they have a free shuttle that pensions can request and 2) they were closed on Sundays. The owner made it pretty clear that she was much more interested in hanging out with her friends than being helpful to guests.

Probably the worst part of our stay was the rudeness we encountered. We did not speak French and, unlike other places we've encountered language barriers, found it really difficult interacting with the staff here who appeared to mock us and made fun of our accents on multiple occasions.  When the pension neglected to give us a message about pick-up time from our dive shop, I called Cindy to find out what the message was. She told me to speak the guy who picked us up at the airport whenever I needed something.  He did not speak English, did not know where to look for the dive shop message (it was on their voicemail which he did not have access to but clearly Cindy did) and then asked another guest why we would even stay there if we didn't speak French? Good question (and thank you other guest for your translation). Note to non-French speakers - stay somewhere else, you may not feel welcomed here. We certainly didn't.

Dissapointing

I couldn't have asked for much more with the Rangiroa Plage camping spot. It is situated right on the lagoon and offers free kayak use and wifi included in the very reasonable cost of camping. 

The only downside to this place right now is that due to an accident by previous guests, there is no gas stove for cooking in the kitchen - there's only a kettle and microwave. This can get a little tiring if you're planning to cook your entire time on Rangiroa. 

That said, if you can handle the cooking situation and are looking to camp on Rangiroa, this is a really great option.

Great Camping Spot on Rangiroa!

The pension is located a few km from the airport. We were met at the airport and driven to the pension as we were told before. The beach on the property was very nice with amazing colors of the lagoon! The snack of the property was very good and tasty, as well as well priced. There were not many dining options nearby if you are with no transportation means, so the snack is very convenient. There is a supermarket 5 min walk, which was very convenient as well, and there is a fridge in the pension (however no cooking options, except a microwave which enables some limited cooking). The staff is amazing and helped with everything, as well as booked our excursions. 
The snorkelling off the beach is nice, though not amazing. There is an option to rent from the pension bikes for 1000 XPF for the whole stay. 
The only minus was that the walls were thin, and you could hear anything from the adjacent rooms. As when we were there, there were not so many people and they were quiet, this did not bother us. 
Overall, very recomended and we will come back there again without a doubt!

Greatest budget option in the island

Stayed there for a couple nights, really good accommodations. Owners were always present, even affiliated to a diving Center if interested. They invited the entire group to their kid’s recital with the village. I stayed in the dormitory in front of the kitchen, very very hot but very practical. We had a shark show every afternoon with the next door neighbor feeding shakes every afternoon, but safe to swim also! Would definitely recommend!
