Rooms are basic but clean. Think hostel level accommodation and priced accordingly. You are miles from anywhere with access only by 4wd so fortunately the food and hospitality were excellent. They have no internet so I recommend making communication by phone regarding pickup. We were picked up from Fa'aa Airport and returned there 2 days later, journey took over 1.5 hours and they charged 6500 FF per person. Rental companies like Eco-Cars won't permit you to take their cars up the Papenoo Valley Road and I could see why not - rugged with lots of fords across a swollen river. Waterfalls galore. Marae ruins.Spectacular rock formations and outcrops. Thank you to our Maitre De Puhiefitu Kokauani who dealt with our very limited French with grace and sorted out the issues when our Visa card wasn't processed - the telecomms there are limited. Take wet weather gear - we were in supposed dry season but you are at 700m and it rained part of every day.
