What a find. This place is like a five-star hotel with a Mom around who is a trained chef and all-around camp counselor. Want time alone to chill and be romantic? Hilda has your back. Want to be a sporty explorer? Hilda will make all the arrangements. Don’t miss her breakfast basket, nor her romantic dinners on your patio. And Olivier, who personally built all the cottages by hand, is also very handy as a host-valet. We plan to return. We were enchanted!

Oh my God! Fabulous!!!

Genuinely beautiful property directly on the ocean in the southwest quadrant of Raiatea.  Very well-maintained property with tropical plants housing five clean/well-equipped oceanfront bungalows with air conditioning and small private balconies.  

I highly recommend Fare Vai Nui for a very peaceful and comfortable stay on Raiatea.  Make sure to book a rental car!

Perfect Choice for A Short Stay on Raiatea

What a special and enchanting hotel! We had a fabulous stay. Hana, her mother, stepfather, and Belle were all wonderful. The food was so good we chose to have dinner there every night. Breakfast was also excellent. Hana’s pastries and deserts and bread were so delicious!  The gardens and views were spectacular! We just loved our stay and can’t wait to go back.

We stayed here for 2 nights before our sailing trip. It is a small family run hotel with only 5 units right on the water. This worked well for our group of 4 adults and 2 children. We hired a car and toured the Island. We can recommend their breakfasts and also we had 1 dinner. Hannah gave us some useful tips of where to stop on our trip, some of which we would not have known about with out local knowledge. No in room facilities to make own meals, so had to eat out.

Good place to start trip

I stayed here with a group of friends prior to a sailing trip - we had a really nice time. Well taken care of by the staff, who were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and air conditioned, with a front porch to watch the amazing sunset from. We ate three meals at the restaurant which were all delicious and fresh. Highly recommend.

Great food, beautiful views

We stayed here 5 nights and loved it.  The well-appointed bungalows are right at the beach with great air conditioning which you need in the rainy season with the high humidity.  There is a small sandy beach from which you can launch kayaks to paddle out in the lagoon for good snorkelling.  For us, the highlight was the restaurant, truly gourmet.  The chef, who is Jean-Jacque's wife, is amazing--she makes everything herself, including the ice cream and sorbets.  We worked our way through all the fish dishes which were outstanding.  The breakfasts are huge, and include homemade vanilla yogurt like you're never tasted before.   One suggestion I passed on to J-J was the addition of comfortable chairs in the restaurant area where you can read or use the internet (no internet in the bungalows) and he told me he's already ordered them.  
The one caveat is that you really need a car here unless you are only staying for one or two nights and don't want to explore the island.  The hotel is 23 kilometres from Uturoa and it costs about $60 Cdn just for a taxi.   You can rent cars in Uturoa or from J-J whose will give you a reduced rate if you rent for a few days.

Beautiful beach bungalow with gourmet restaurant

Rooms are fine and location is good,  but be careful about food!  We were charged $44 for a breakfast we never ate and never committed to.  Terrible customer service trying to get it resolved on-site.  Finally gave up as we had to leave to catch a plane.  When we contacted the owner after we got home, politely requesting a credit for what was clearly their responsibility, he was downright abusive!  No care or concern for customer service.

This place is excellent especially if you enjoy great food. A little out of time but you can arrange a transfer. The rooms are simple but wonderful and the food - tres bon. Fresh and delicious. You won’t regret it 

Hidden Gem

May 2017 was a visit to Fare Vai Nui (or rather paradise) that I'm still dreaming about and hoping to return to some day.  Jean Jacques, his family and the staff were very welcoming, the rooms were private and peaceful, the view exceptional and the food.... well, I'm still dreaming about the fresh tuna sashimi, which I ate at three different meals... couldn't have been better.  Breakfast was fruit, fresh baguettes, chocolate croissants, crepes and bacon and eggs if we so desired.  Our days were spent kayaking out to the small island and reef and then sitting on the porch of our room watching the sunset.  After the sunset, we made our way over for fabulous dinners (Did I mention the sashimi?) and the sounds of the ocean.  Yes, I am still dreaming of paradise at Fare Vai Nui!!
