I finally made it here and it’s well worth the journey .

The pension is right on the lagoon side and run by a lovely family .

Take an excursion with Joel, the owner,  out to the motu’s for spectacular scenery. Go fishing . Take a bike and discover three motu’s that are connected by bridges .

Dining is family style and good home cooking !

Bungalow’s are clean and comfortable. 

This is not for everyone but if you want an unique Polynesian experience, it is here .

We just returned from a week at Pension Toku Kaiga in Anaa and are already dreaming of going back. The rooms are incredibly comfortable and clean, the best rooms compared to other family-owned ‘pensions’ we stayed at on other islands in the Tuamotu. There are 4 bungalows. All rooms are spacious, have a fridge, and are cleaned about every other day, which is also unusual for ‘pensions’ in the Tuamotu (which typically only clean once during the stay). There is ample space to store and hang clothes and personal items, and 2 of the bungalows are equipped with mosquito nets and a television. Our room had a double bed and a single bed and the mattresses were comfortable. The property is meticulously maintained; the grounds are inviting, with a lovely ‘fare pote’e / happy hour area, as well as a large covered dining room with a small sitting area. Food was varied and abundant, and generally locally sourced. There is a lot of attention to details eg walls built with coconut wood, tablecloth, decoration and nice dishware on the table everyday, pretty sheets/bedspreads, etc. We also really enjoyed the bicycles which we used everyday to go around the village. There are also a couple of kayaks. The only minus I can think of concerns my vegan husband; bring your own food if you are vegetarian or vegan. In any case, Tupana and Romana and their daughter Joelle are very warm, friendly, yet discreet hosts. They made us feel so welcome. They referred us to Rustic and Louise for our lagoon activities, and Jean-Pierre Beaury for cultural activities, which we all highly recommend. Pension Toku Kaiga is definitely a keeper, and one of our very top destinations in French Polynesia
