Domaine de la Sauvagine

The Chambre d'Hotes (B&B) organization in France is exemplary for its efficiency, effectiveness and controls of their featured houses. La Sauvagine in Salavas just outside of Valon Pont d'Arc offers a fine sample of exceptional quality in a serene quiet surrounding outside the hustle-bustle of Valon Pont d'Arc. Christine and Didier, the hosts, have constructed a number of impeccably equipped rooms in two floors in their own home as is usual with such Chambres d'Hotes. Everything is clean, new, works well and with full privacy. We occupied the room called La Lavande as all rooms are named after herbs of Provence and Ardeche. In better weather we could have enjoyed the outside spaces as well but we happened to be unlucky with rainy and slightly cold weather. The dinner, Table d'Hotes, was an experience as is usual having diner with the other guests and the hosts. In this case not only the appetizers were chosen from local delicacies, but our hosts took the liberty of a beautiful presentation as well. The main dish was delicious and plentiful but the 'piece de resistance' was the final offer of some exceptional cheeses of 'le terroir' (from the local country) courtesy of Didier. A two year old little' chevre' (goat) cheese still resonates in my mouth. The final comment on this house has to do with the kind f people Christine and Didier are. We had diner with one other couple at the table, of similar age to us but the lady was blind and heavily deaf. They were there as a gift from their children for the 70th birthday of their father. Both Christine and Didier were most accommodating and pleasantly helpful with the circumstances in a most touching and kind way. Could there be anything more to say...
