We found Hotel St Jacques on Tripadviser and it was everything you said. Very reasonably priced with la large, light and airy room with a balcony overlooking the valley and hills. The Owner was helpful, kind and courteous. The village of Vals is a pure delight. We had happened upon it as a friend was restoring a property there. The only downside for me personally was the rather steep hill to get to the hotel - ok by car but a challenge by foot. We spent 4 very happy days exploring the region from there.
