Gîte d'Aigues Vives

We spent a night here as a stopover on our way to family holidays in the south west of France. We all loved the delightful Mongolian yurt, tastefully and comfortably furnished, and the charming African hut which houses the kitchen and bathroom. Set up at the edge of a forest, in a grassy field and by a small lake, this is a wonderfully quiet and remote place to stay. The couple running the place, friendly and helpful, live the other side of the lake. The beds (1 double and 2 singles - plus 2 slide-out singles which we didn't use) were comfortable, which good quality linen. The kitchen is well equipped, with a sink, a full height fridge, an oven and 4-ring gas stove-top, and a good range of pots, pans, cuttlery, crockery, etc. The bathroom has a sink, a full sized bath tub (and enough hot water for the whole family), and a composting or dry toilet. Note that the entrance to the bathroom is closed only by a curtain, and that the small window looking out to the field has no curtain at all. The setting is remote, and a little tricky to find even with a gps. And this is definitely a self-catering setup, there are no other facilities on site - no tv room, no bar, no restaurant. The town of Montrichard, about 8km away, has a supermarket and restaurants. We were quite delighted with this lovely place; the charm of the yurt and the hut under a starry starry countryside night sky was quite magical.
