This was my fourth visit to this lovely place.  I am not alone many people return again and again.  Part of the charm of this lovely auberge is its simplicity.  It is not luxurious and it does not have a television!  The rooms are simple, comfortable and well-appointed with a separate washroom with a shower.  The demi-pension formula works very well and one gets a copious walkers breakfast with an array of foods.  The evening meal consists of three courses which are both filling and delicious.  One of the owners, Robert, is an excellent chef.  If one feels so inclined one can also have a platter of local cheeses.  The other co-owner, Patrick, bends over backwards to be helpful and friendly.  Nothing is too much trouble.  Salau is the end of the line and the road hardly goes any further.  Some great walks are to be had in the area for all levels of ability....  One whole day walk to the Port d'Aula is about 25 km in length and at quite an altitude but then there are circular valley walks too.  I shall be going there again.

A hidden gem.

Great place, close to lovely mountains for longer or shorter trips. For the adventurous and sporty ones or just for a relaxed couple of days. Wonderful hosts. Entrepreneurial people with a heart for the region. 

Out and away

This is an unpretentious place for people who prefer peace and quiet with a simple comfortable room with a shower room attached.  The half-board formula is excellent for those interested in outdoor pursuits such as long hikes in the mountains.  The evening meal consists of three delicious courses with plentiful wholesome food cooked by Robert and presented by Patrick.  There is plenty of attention to detail.  A plateau of local cheeses is also a possibility and there is wine on offer too.  Breakfasts are copious with outdoor activities in mind...  They include yaourt and cheese....  The outdoor terrace offers alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for those wanting refreshments at the end of the day.  This was my third stay here.

A true gem

Patrick and Robert are conscientious hosts who put their heart and soul into their beautiful Auberge. We loved our quick one night there and will definitely return. Highly recommend this place to see this secret corner of France.

This is a special place

I returned to Les Myrtilles for my third visit, being my second with my wife after discovering the auberge in 2015 with a walking group. Each time the friendliness of Anouk and René has been particularly noteworthy.
As on previous occasions, our room was clean, airy and sufficiently spacious. The shower provided copious quantities of hot water. 
Breakfast was simple but more than adequate. Evening meals had variety, were well prepared and served and were just what was needed after a day walking.
The surrounding countryside is magnificent, offering a wide variety of hiking and walks to satisfy all levels - obviously providing you are ready to do some uphill sections!
We revisited Port d’Aula and Cascades d’Ars and discoved the enchanting Cirque de Cagateille.
Our hosts were most understanding when I had to phone to say we would be late for diner - even when the faulty planning was clearly mine!
Care and attention to the requirements of the CoVid epidemic were strictly adhered to and we felt perfectly at ease.
We can thoroughly recommend the auberge!

Just what was needed!

We stayed 5 days at the Auberge les Myrtiles at the end of June on our way to Spain with our dog Epke..

Anouk, René and Spike were great hosts (and cooks), nothing was too much and they are wonderful and relaxed - exactly what we needed.

The hotel is located at the end of the road towards the national park, and very quiet on the whole.  The room was comfortable, breakfast simple but nice and dinner each night very inventive and tasty!

The Auberge is perfectly located for walking trips in the Pyrenees, for which we received a large number of options from Anouk on arrival.

We have booked again for our next trip in October

Wonderful stay - relaxing and very friendly owners

This was my second visit (the first was in September 2017) and I had the same exceptional welcome.  It was "complet" as it nearly always is with repeat customers and new ones all intent on finding a peaceful location for long walks in a beautiful area of the Pyrenees.  The owners bend over backwards to make you feel part of the family.  The rooms are clean with a bathroom area.  They are simple and do not have a television in the room which a blessing.   The breakfasts include things like yaourts and eggs which set one up for walks...  There is the possibility of ordering a picnic which is more than ample.  Dinners are delicious.  The starters are varied and beautifully presented.  The main courses are also wonderful and balanced.  The deserts are varied.  Cheese is available too.  Anouk and René are ever present and people just love being there.  Praise all round. Vegetarians etc are catered for on request.

Simply the best.

My French mother-in-law booked two rooms in this hostel for us. The hostess Anouk welcomed us with her air of full energy and fluent French. Not until later did I learned that she and her husband were Dutch and they moved to this magnificient Salau 'for the love of the forest'.
The rooms are clean and neat knowing the age of the house. Anouk prepared an extra bed for my son who loved it and enjoyed it very much after the trekking.
The living/ dining room are cosy with the lovely decors and entertainments like a piano and a guitar. There are plenty of board or card games of all kinds for all people from 4 to 99. These are for the guests to  chill out after the hiking. If not, admiring the landscape from the living room is also a great time.
We'll definitely come back.

Feel like spending time at a friend's house

We took a hiking vacation in Auberge les Myrtilles. The contact prior to arrival was perfect and we were well prepared. Everyday we made a hiking, and we got a good advise from the hosts. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. Meals, especially dinner were perfect. Nice atmosphere lovely place. We recommend.

A perfect vacation

We stayed here for 6 nights and had an absoluty amazing time in this perfectly situated hotel run by two lovely people: Anouk and Rene. What a warm welcome and what a delight to stay here. 
Every morning a breakfast is served including a boiled egg, baguettes and plenty of toppings to choose from, yoghurt, a croissant (of course, this is France after all), orange juice and coffee or thee. More then enough to get you going.
We also opted for the lunch to be handed out in the morning so we could enjoy it during our walks in the Pyrenees. Lunch included a fresh baguette with cheese, a wrap with smoked ham and cucumber, a piece of fruit, water (0.5l) and a pack of chocolate cookies. Just what's required on a day of hiking. 
René cooks a daily changing three course menu for dinner, using local products. The quality of the meals is really good and the food is very tasty. Combined with their great hospitality and endless positive energy, Anouk and René really have created a perfect base from where to explore the Pyrenees. 
Beside all the above, the owners of the hotel have a lot knowlegde about all the hikes in the environment and you can ask them for info and or tips anytime.
