Stayed here with some buddies of mine while backpacking. Owner and her daughter (if they still own it) were very nice. The owner almost felt like my distant french aunt after we left. Very sweet lady. Was a great location and prices were more than fair. The town was probably the worst part. Good for history but not for backpackers looking for a least a little nightlife while takin in the history of the town. Everything was closed by 7. No fridges anywhere to keep ur beer cold. And the train station steakhouse didnt even have steak sauce. If you do stay in Rouen This is definitely worth a look though if your looking for a decent room to just sleep in and maybe rest halfway through the day of walking around.

Backpack stop

Needed to catch a very  early train from the Rouen gare, so i booked for 2 nights here. Arrived at lunchtime on Sunday and left my luggage.

Given a room on the second floor - up narrow triangular stairs. Double bed and a small single.

Taken aback by the old light grey carpet having strips of rough brown mats to walk on. So one needed to wear sandals or slippers as these hurt one's bare feet.

The old small TV had a very dirty screen, which I cleaned up. Only 6 channels offered.

Otherwise the bathroom, though quite worn, worked fine. 

The 2 youngish men were both very pleasant and helpful though. One spoke good English.

From 07.00 on monday , noisy building work took place across the road where a new hotel and apartments are being developed. Old style windows are single-glazed.

Do like Rouen though - previously i stayed at the Mercure near the cathedral...

Only worth staying there for a day or 2

We quite enjoyed our four nights here. Had booked single rooms but upgraded to two doubles for only three euros a night each extra. Singles were very small. Doubles spacious. I had to ask for a clean shower curtain as the one in place was very dirty indeed. Wifi was great!!  The lovely owners were only too happy to assist with luggage on the steep and narrow stairs.

Very convenient to the train station. Ideal as we travelled out somewhere every day. However do take the time to have a good wander in Rouen. Beautiful half timbered houses.

The hotel is old but OK if you don't mind dodgy plumbing. The shower head wouldn't stay in place and I managed to spray water for miles! The toilet either flushed constantly or needed the dustbin filled with water and tipped in to the loo.

Quaint

We didn't expect to stay overnight in Rouen so turned up on the doorstep with fingers crossed. The bloke on reception was lovely, very apologetic that the room was up 3 flights of narrow stairs but he insisted on carrying our bags for us.  The bed was really comfy,  and the white cotton sheets had that just washed feeling.  Breakfast was extremely basic, bread, jam and cheese, but the breadbasket was overflowing with about 6 different types of bread, obviously just baked that morning.  3 different cheeses and 3 different jams and a new breadbasket appeared when we had almost finished the first one, although we waved it away as we're stuffed by then. Yes, the place could do with a massive refurb, but the owners probably can't afford it.
When our plans went haywire for the second day, we made a beeline back to the hotel, were greeted like old friends and spent another comfortable night.

Shabby, but clean and friendly

Its a quiet expansive hotel for what it is... The yound man welcoming us was very nice and gave us good adresses in town. The hotel is near the train station which is helpful if you arrive by train but beside that, its dirty, several parts of the room were almost falling apart and it was very noisy. 
I only recommend if you need to stay near the train station and dont care about money.
