Hotel Restaurant Les Barnieres

Guillestre is in a fantastic location for visiting some great high alpine passes, so is of interest to tourists who enjoy driving and cycling. I don’t think it’s a ski resort, so as such, the hotel options are limited. Les Barnieres is a perfect stop for a touring holiday as it’s just outside town, so is quiet and has plentiful parking next to the hotel. There’s even a hose by the parking area, for a quick wash down of your vehicle. It’s probably a 5 -10 minute walk downhill into town. Rooms are comfortable, though a little dated, but that is reflected in the bargain price. Balconies have a great view. It was hot when we were there, so we slept with the balcony doors open and listened to what I think was a nightingale on both nights. Food was very good, though the menu combinations offered are a little complicated. The most wonderful thing about Les Barnieres though, is the pool area. It’s just across the (very quiet) road from the hotel, and is really quite private. Our group of 12 had it mostly to ourselves. There are plenty of loungers, and even a large covered area if you want shade, and maybe a game of table tennis. The pool is of a good size and is beautifully clean. Annick, the owner, and her staff were absolutely charming.
