Auberge de Catherine

We spent 2 nights mid week at Auberge Catherine and enjoyed our stay. We were the only guests , which did mean we had a very personal service and warm welcome from the family who have taken over the establishment early this year. I have the feeling that the new owners have not been in the hotel business for long and are working hard to create a new atmosphere. The hotel met expectations for a simple, unpretentious establishment. The rooms are not big, and I think we may even have had one of the larger ones - fine for our short stay, but not equipped for work (no desk. Our room has a small balcony looking over the village and mountains, ). Clean and comfortable beds, good bathroom, good internet connection. Admittedly a little on the expensive side for the size and quality of the rooms, but it seems to be in range with other hotels in the region. The breakfast was good- we were offered choice of classic continental or savoury. The banana bread was a delicious extra with the croissants and pain au chocolat. We enjoyed the creole dishes in the restaurant, a nice change from the normal menus of the region. It was a lovely quiet place, near enough Briancon but away from the crowds- good hikes nearby and easy driving to magnificent alpine hikes.
