If you're looking for a spotless, quiet charming b&b near Loire Valley chateaux, this is the place. Hosts Christine and Bertrand gave us great recommendations for dinner and biking.  Christine's homemade baked goods turned breakfast into something memorable.  The intimate courtyard was the perfect place to chill.  

It was impeccable. All of the highest standard and taste. Very warm welcome nothing was too much trouble. Madame had made all the jams and marmalades herself. Her pastries were light and delicious. Our evening meal was outstanding. Go have a treat .

Among the majestic châteaux of the Loire Valley, its undisputed jewels, lies the hidden gem La Folie Saint Julien. With its tranquil, impeccably maintained courtyard garden and rooms which perfectly combine classic and contemporary decor, this guest house sparkles with style and sophistication. Christine is a warm, friendly, attentive host who provides an elegantly served gourmet breakfast offering exquisite bursts of flavour. It will give you all the energy you need for a day of sightseeing! We visited Château de Chaumont (wonderful for the beauty and diversity of its gardens) and Château de Chenonceau (excellent for its historical depiction and displays), as well as lively Amboise. The nearest restaurants to the guest house are a short drive away in charming Montrichard and there's a large supermarket close by. Christine can also provide an evening meal on request. We absolutely loved our stay in this peaceful, relaxing retreat, which will live long in the memory.

Stayed for 2 nights on the way down to the SW from Roscoff. Location is excellent for discovering Loire Chateaux, we went to Chenonceau and Cheverny and did the wine tasting at the Cheverny entrance. Accommodation was fantastic as were the breakfasts and recommendations from Christine regarding nearby restaurants for dinner in Montrichard and further afield. Can highly recommend, 3-4 nights would have given us more time to explore the region further. Christine was an excellent host and the building layout and style gave a lovely country house feel.

This is an exceptional place to stay - an elegant house and stylishly converted surrounding buildings, all set in tranquil countryside in the lovely valley of the River Cher. You can ride your bikes from the door through quiet lanes and along riverside paths to the magnificent Chateau de Chenonceau, then back through the woods and vineyards. There are many other cycling paths in the area - with Christine’s detailed route maps as your guide you can’t go wrong.  She and Bertrand are wonderfully attentive hosts, quietly unobtrusive but always on hand to suggest somewhere you might like  to visit - the international garden festival in the grounds of Chateau de Chaumont just one - or to reserve a table at one of the many excellent restaurants in the area. Le Cheval Rouge is a joy. Christine clearly enjoys meeting her guests and has a special talent for welcoming them. Her delicious breakfasts will live long in the memory - mouth-watering pastries, fresh fruit compotes, home-made madeleines and excellent coffee. We stayed four nights and it was truly hard to leave. Parfait. Everything about our stay was lovely.  Our hosts, Christine and Bertrand, were so welcoming and helpful. The location of the house is beautiful and the rooms well-equipped and comfortable. A charming blend of classic and contemporary. Breakfasts - brilliant.

We stayed for 3 nights and were delighted when Christine offered us an upgrade to her best room. Christine and her husband, Bertrand are a charming couple who did everything to make our stay enjoyable. Wonderful breakfasts, with Christine 's home made pastries , delicious jams, and delicious granola (home made again)
Nothing was too much trouble and Christine gave advice on excursions and a list of restaurant recommendations which was very helpful.
The decor , furnishings and bed linen are of the highest quality.
Highly recommended and very convenient for most of the Loire chateaux. 

We wish we'd had more time to stay at this romantic jewel box of a place. The location is ideal. The rooms are gorgeously, thoughtfully, and tastefully appointed with quality materials. The bed was so comfortable and the shower was excellent.  
Breakfast was outstanding: homemade pastries, jams, and compotes; granola, bread, and fresh apple cider; perfectly rich and thick hot chocolate.
Our hostess was gracious, kind, and informative. We give La Folie our highest recommendation.

This is the most amazing b&b - a real find in the middle of the French countryside.  From the warm welcome to the immaculate room and VERY comfortable bed and great restaurant recommendations, everything was faultless.  The breakfast was the best we had in our entire French trip - all home made, including warm madeleines, lemon rice pudding pots and little brioche.  We will be back!

A very nice place, stunningly located with easy access to the attractions in the Loire valley -at the same time devoid of any outside noise. The rooms are well appointed, the hosts are very user-friendly and a pleasure to interact with. There is ample parking. A lovely breakfast is served in the main house. I would love to return here.

Absolutely wonderful!

Warm welcome, perfect room, amazing breakfast!

This was a truly delightful place to stay and Christine, the owner, was absolutely charming.  The rooms were all immaculate, the house and gardens were beautiful and the pool was an added bonus.

Christine served an exceptional breakfast with lots of  excellent home-made produce including jams, pastries, brioche etc alongside with the usual bread and croissants etc.

We would definitely go back and maybe stay longer next time.

Delightful Host & Chambres d'Hote

This is an exceptional place to stay.  The rooms are comfortable and elegant.  Breakfast is a delicious array of home baked delights prepared with care by a hostess who is a keen cook. 
Best of all is the friendly welcome from a lady who clearly loves meeting new people and is very helpful.  Whether you wish to visit castles and gardens, find a local market or eat at a good restaurant, reliable advice is freely available.
It's geat to have a pool too.
