Hôtel La Maison De Gaudissard

La Maison Gaudissard in Molines provided me a nice rest day and the opportunity to photograph several interesting sundials. 
The meals were tasty and the accommodations were more pleasant than most refuges. If you're on foot, you'll have a 1-mile uphill walk from the entrance to the village. 
The Office d'Acceuil was very helpful and recommended this place.

Basic accommodation and highly-priced, but hosts were very friendly and accommodating.  Dinner was basic (given similar accommodation in the Alps), as was breakfast, but easier than finding a restaurant elsewhere.  Lovely situation though, and very convenient for St Veran and the Italian border.

Very Nice Hotel/Refuge

This is a 2 star hotel where we were based with a group from Trekking the Alps for a week. It has pleasant and helpful owners, Nico and David, with basic clean rooms and a lovely terrace for beers or tea at the end of fabulous walks. The bar is cosy, the Genepi plentiful! Our only complaint was that the soups were very watery and the deserts too sweet.

Great base for walking in the Queyras

We arrived here because the hotels were all full, and it was pretty horrible to be honest.
The pleasant-enough guy who welcomed us tried to place us in a horrible attic room (marked staff) under the eaves, so low it was only possible to stand up in the middle of the room. The ceiling has been plugged with polyfilla and never repainted, there were two hard single beds on a tacky bit of carpet, no lock on the door, toilets on a different floor, and a horrible graffiti of a naked woman painted (badly) on the wall.. Frankly, I've never seen anything like it. We requested a different room and were moved to a communal 5 person room which was nice enough for a gite, but even then the staff were about as grumpy as they could be when we asked for towels ("People usually bring their own!) or a cup of hot water to make coffee ("Breakfast isn't available till later!").
Finally, despite the driving rain and the fact the we were on a motorbike, we were kicked out at 10am sharp. The only good point was that the little hotel we moved to in St Veran seemed like paradise after this. These people really need to learn how to smile, and how to say "yes" to reasonable demands without sounding like they're saying "no". It was cheaper than a hotel, but once you added costs for sheets, breakfast... nowhere near cheap enough.
