We have stayed at this lovely and characterful place many times over the years, and were hoping to go there for a special anniversary.

But sadly for us - though happily for them! - the owners, M et Mme Lorrain, have retired, and the hotel is now permanently closed.

Quel dommage!

We have been here many times over a 15 year period and always enjoy our stay here. The hosts are warm and friendly the evening meals are excellent value and it is an excellent base to explore the local region.

We recently stayed for 3 nights and the ambience, hospitality, surroundings, room & facilities were all superb. Ideally located for Lyons La Floret and exploring the local area.

We would be coming back again and again but it seems the owners are closing at the end of the season. I can only request that they reconsider as this is one place i would truly come back to every year.

Beautiful gardens with hundreds of roses.

If you're looking for somewhere to escape to for a few days of peace and quiet, look no further. Just a short walk from the centre of Lyons La Foret this really is a tranquil location. I have stayed here before and the grounds are always immaculate. The menu had a good selection and we really enjoyed our stay here.

We have stayed here twice before for overnights on the way to somewhere else, and both times promised ourselves we'd come back for a longer stay.
This time we stayed for four nights, and paid a total of 880 euros for sumptuous hospitality. Yes - we had for dinner, bed and breakfast for around £80 per head, per night! (And on two of those nights we drank a bottle of the nicest Burgundy you could hope to find, so that was 60-odd euros on its own.) 
So no question about good value. But what do you get for the money?
Well, as others have said, the room interiors are not in the latest style. The French have never understood decor, despite inventing the word. For ourselves, we actually _like_ a traditional French hotel: it reminds us that we're abroad. If you want Formica, go elsewhere. The bed was perfectly comfortable, the shower and bath were new and worked beautifully, there was some lovely antique French furniture in the room - and the views from the windows were superb. 
The hotel stands in its own kind of park - sweeping lawns extend all around. The whole is in the most tranquil place imaginable: the silence is so total that it reminds you how noisy our everyday lives are back home.
Dinner was a tour de force. We ate in every night, and are now on STRICT diets! The food is fabulous: as well as wonderful starters and mains there are superb local cheeses, all just 'au point' (Ah! The Livarot!), and the dessert trolley is amazing - especially the house speciality, Delice de St Paul. Try it. 
Watch out for the palate-cleansing inter-course sorbet, though: it came absolutely swimming in delicious Calvados or Poire William! Don't drive home after THAT. :-)
And the staff? They were faultless. Charming, helpful, smiling and kind, they absolutely made our stay.
You probably won't get the best out of the place if you just stay one night. But if you can cure yourself of the idea that rushing about in all directions is the only way to have fun, it is a wonderful place to chill out. Take a little walk into the village and have a coffee in the charming square. Potter up the road to Les Andelys and see the castle. Read a good book. Write postcards. Put on weight...
For this kind of activity (or non-activity!) the Hostellerie du Domaine Saint Paul is perfect. As soon as we arrived back, we started planning our next visit.
