Hôtel Modern

My wife & I together with two friends stayed at the Hotel Modern on Thursday 26th April 2018. We have nothing but praise for the hotel and the staff, and can thoroughly recommend both the location and hotel. Ile Tudy is a beautiful and traditional seaside town complete with quaint houses, sailing boats and easily accessible beaches. It is easy to see why it is so popular because even on a cool April afternoon/evening the Place de la Cale was busy with visitors enjoying the various cafes, bars & restaurants. We arrived mid-afternoon and were impressed that a level of trust long since lost by most of the world is still exhibited by the hotel. On entering the reception area we found a basket containing two room keys and a note bearing my name. The telephone on the desk is marked to "contact reception press this button"; on doing so I was connected to the Patron who warmly welcomed us, apologised for not being present, ensured that we had found our room keys and wishes us a pleasant stay. We had not paid any deposit and he was quite happy for us to pay at breakfast the following morning. Our room (No.8) was a front-corner room with views of the Place de la Cale and the estuary. Our friends were allocated room No. 6 with limited views of the estuary. The rooms (and hotel) were clean and well decorated. It is not a 'high-end' venue but the bedding, pillows, bath towels were all of good quality. Rooms do not have tea/coffee making facilities but other than that there was no 'down-side' to our stay. It should be noted that due to the size of Ile Tudy the hotel does not have any parking facilities. You can bring your car to the entrance to drop-off/pick-up luggage, and thereafter you have to park your car in the nearest available parking bay. For us this was about 200mtrs away and not a problem; however, for others (especially the elderly and infirm) this may be a problem. It should be remembered that this issue is not of the hotel's making or in it's control and should not be seen as a reason to complain. Breakfast the following morning was very good; a plentiful supply of hot coffee; pastries, cheese, meats, bread, and cereals ensured that we did not leave with empty stomachs. I was more than happy to pay my bill and was extremely sad that we had to leave after only one night. We will definitely return to Ile Tudy and stay at the Hotel Modern.
