We were en route to the Perigord and needed a place for the night. We were thrilled with what we found. 
The old farmhouse has been beautifully renovated by the owners Anita and Benoit. We were warmly welcomed into their home and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Normally we don’t eat dinner at chambre d’Hotes but we made an exception and, boy, we were pleased we did. Anita is a great cook and spoiled us with an excellent meal.
A few nights here would give you the chance to explore the area. There seems to be lots to do.

Excellent

Stopped midway through France at the Chambres d'Hotel Le Tilleul, and had a good stay.

The comfort and the cleanliness was superb, well heated for December, and the food including the evening meal that we had was totally fulfilling. The place is a little way off the beaten track, but that made for a very peaceful stay.

A good place to stay overnight

We only stated for one night at the end of our holiday, but it was well worth finding this gem
Talking of "finding", it's not in St. Hilaire, but approx 5km away. Set the Sat nav for "La Doit", it's a small hamlet surrounded by farmland.
Le Tilleul is a working farm, so it's very rural, but with quality furniture and furnishings. The bed was good as was the shower.
But the best bit was the friendliness of Anita, and her food was great. We didn't meet  husband as he was out bailing hay until midnight.
We chose the evening meal option for 20 euros, it was fantastic with wine with aperitifs before the meal. This was 3 excellent courses all expertly prepared by Anita. Again, including locally produced wine. Coffee followed. We sat with a French family,together with Anita and her daughter, with chat both in French and English. On a our trips we find that if we try to speak in French (badly) after a while the French start to practice their English. We had a very convivial evening.
Breakfast next morning in the garden was also top notch with .many home made products.
An excellent find in many ways, just remember the Sat nav recommendation

Worth finding....a fantastic B&B

We were a party of 5, 4 off which were cycling through France. (Otter Wheels.)  cannot praise this guest house highly enough. Rooms were excellent with en suit all of which were spotless. We all ate with the family along with a visiting French couple at the communal dining table, and in spite of the languages differances got on well together with the assistance of Anita's, the hostess, help. Food was excellent also. If you are looking for somewhere to stay whilst in the area, this is the place to head for.

Le Tilleul is ideally located for a stopover whilst driving through France. I found it without any problems, though my SATNAV might have had other ideas! I spotted the house easily with its distinctive shutters. I stayed in the twin blue & white room which was very comfortable. Anita was very welcoming and she provided a lovely evening meal followed by breakfast the next morning with a plethora of homemade jams and yogurts. Definitely will stay again. Thank you.

Perfect place to stopover

I stayed one night at Le Tilleul during a cycle ride from St Malo to the Charente.   A warm welcome from M Fauger, a very pleasant room with fine modern bathroom, a most enjoyable evening meal with local produce taken with the family and with other guests, and a splendid breakfast.   All in all, a most enjoyable stay at an excellent Bed and Breakfast.

We stayed at CHAMBRES D'HOTES LE TILLEUL for one night in August 2014 to break up a long drive south.  Anita is an excellent host, very accommodating as she even came to meet us when our sat nav failed on the way, interrupting a family celebration evening, for which we were really grateful!  The B&B is in a rural location and really nicely presented.  The twin Eglantine room has been finished to a high spec and the bathroom is brilliant.  Breakfast is traditional breads, preserves, fruit and yoghurts, plenty of variety and delicious home baked cakes included.  Would not hesitate to stay here again it was lovely.  Thank you Anita and family.
