Guesthouse de Cambis B&B

This is an amazing bed and breakfast (maison d'hote) in a renovated guard tower in the old part of Remoulins. It is a four (five?) story building with an actual stone spiral staircase and exposed timber ceilings but with very modern decor. The ground level is a common area that includes a kitchen and fridge for guest use, dining room and a library with a stone arch ceiling.The hosts live on the first floor and then there are three suites on the upper floors. Our family of five stayed in the "suite du rempart" a 2 room plus sleeping loft suite that felt larger than our North American house and was at least 5 times the size of the tiny Paris apartment we rented the week before. The common rooms on the ground floor were comfortably cool all day compared to the plus 35 temperatures outside and yes our room was warm, but not uncomfortable and cooled off nicely over night. It's southern France after all and we were expecting hot. The Continental breakfast included was served in the south facing but shaded garden and was outstanding (fresh croissants, 3 different breads, fruit, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, orange juice.) In Paris breakfast like this would have cost our family at least half the price of the room. Other reviewers have noted the WiFi isn't fast, but it is sufficient, and it's beautiful southern France and there is so much to see that isn't on your screens. There also is no live TV, but they have a collection of DVDs in the library and a Wii. My kids enjoyed this during the hot late afternoon after we had spent 5 hours canoeing and swimming in the river. Our hostess was amazingly helpful and gave us great advice on how to best spend our limited time to see the highlights of the region. The location is excellent. 30 minutes from Avignon, 15 minute to Uzes. Pont du Gard is literally just around the corner, and Remoulins has everything you need including a swimming area in the Gardon river and a large supermarket. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
