The room we shared was fairly unmemorable, but reasonably priced, clean and comfortable - perfect after a long days drive, no fuss. The dinner, however, was excellent, a menu du jour with choices under 20 euros, better than many eaten in France and for lots more money. The menu is predictable but the cooking well practised - these guys know what they're doing. The coq au vin tasted like it had been steeping for days and the sauté potatoes well browned and moreish. Difficult to stop eating, going well past the 'full' stage. Mme Overall was rather formal in her demeanour, but very polite and made us most welcome. Good breakfast too. A good place to stay if in Issoire

Situated between the train station (100m) and the old city, the hotel is very well positioned. 
It's a bit dated but has character, friendly staff and is clean. Our room was very large and had a good view out to the rolling countryside. 
Parking was roadside but felt safe. 
Across the road was a children's park and river. 
Sunday and Monday sees the restaurant closed. But there are others nearby - we chose the nearby Italian, Au Petit Bouchon (150m away, just past the park), which was good.

Well placed, clean, stopover

Nice place, great dinner

We went to this restaurant because our usual one was closed. We decided to go for the more expensive menu, 19.60, because the cheaper menu was unimaginative . This menu sounded  ok but was disappointing for the price. I don't like fatty, cheap cuts of meat or too many bones. I had to order the pork because the other choices were coque au vin which my husband chose and was very boney, and tripe . The pork was a knuckle of pork....Horrible, all skin and fat. It came with watery lentils and boiled potatoes.  The dog with us did well. The starters were ok .my salad of the region was good, my husband's starter  of ham with melon was generous . The desserts were OK. 
The owner was very welcoming. Unfortunately the food and service were poor. I had to ask the waitress three times for more bread and water.  I had to remind her three times that we had ordered one coffee, but she eventually brought two. Is it that hard?
We won't go here again. Traditional rustic cuisine is good if it's cheap. This was expensive .

Cheap food but expensive prices

This hotel is the same as hundreds of others in France in this price range. The staff were friendly but the whole place was dated, faded and shabby. There was a large piece of peeling wallpaper in our room, which was otherwise clean and the furniture had definitely seen better days. 
Breakfast was standard bread and croissant in the huge dining room - very French.

Friendly but shabby room

We used this hotel as a stopover on our drive down to Spain. It is about eight hours from Calais. We had eaten here before but not used the hotel facilities. I must qualify my remarks by stating that we only paid 65 Euro for a double room. However the room was poorly appointed. The shower and sink were in a alcove in the room with just a curtain to cut it off from the room. The WC was fitted with a macerator that made the most horrendous racket whenever it was flushed. Not only once but it burst into life a second time about thirty seconds after the first. The decoration together with the  fixtures and fittings were all a bit tired. We may go back for a meal but not for a stay.
