Oualiri Beach

When I need to "run-a-way" from a hard trip some where alse on risky and doubtfull places - I turn back to La Desirade and stay on Oualiri Beach Hotel. Here the problems of "the World" seem fare away, it feels like a good trip meny years ago - just as a more simpel and easy way of life - it`s gives cure for mind and body. La Desirade is a small island and people seems to be aware of what`s going on - not to much - it is still possible to feel free, people are not pushing, insistent. You can be alone and your self if you want, or get contact if you want. La Desirade gives a pleasant experience of safety. The last 3 winter, I have been visiting La Desirade some weeks, and every time I was living on the small family guesthouse Ouliri Beach Hotel. Here "things" goes slowely and calm. Oualiri is not a very high luxus, but it is a nice place with just what you need. The staff are kind and makes you feel welcome to ask for something, they clean what is necessary, all is with a little distance, not too affected - that is what I like, it works well. The little house is right on the beach, with 4-5 smalle rooms including bath-room/toilet. In the front of the main-door is a small open veranda, it is ok to sit there on a chair and eat the food you have bought in the shops in the village, when you look to the sea and hear the waves, just infront of you. I like to eat breakfast in the small restaurant on the balcany and they make good food later in the day, just declare if you eat there, it`s not expencive La Desirade is easy to come to from Guadeloupe with boat. To discover La desirade is nice and easy, to take a trip to the other end of the island is super, the beaches are silent and a trip to the top of the mountain/big hill by the church, is fantastic. If you realy need to relax, go to La Desirade and stay by Oualiri. Anne Bruun, Denmark
