L'Escapade, Maison d'hôtes

We stayed at L'Escapade for two nights whilst travelling through France. We had spent time in Cote d'Azur, and after visiting L'Escapade we were continuing our holiday in Burgundy and Champagne regions. I chose L'Escapade based on 10 out of 10 ratings on Booking.com (a rating which is virtually unknown) but I contacted the property directly to ask some final questions before making the reservation. From my first contact, via email, Eric was extremely helpful, including providing restaurant recommendations and offering to help with restaurant bookings before our arrival. The property is a little off the main road, but the instructions were excellent and we found it very easily. My expectations were high based on the reviews, and they were exceeded in all ways when we actually arrived. This property is sensational. There is a detached stone built villa - which contains three en suite rooms - plus a newly built very modern property that contains two en suite rooms. Each property has their own pool for guest use, plus lots of terraces and seating areas with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. We chose one of the rooms in the new property - Merindor. The quality of the room and the whole property is exceptional. High quality linens, comfortable beds, 'quiet' air conditioning, the highest quality fittings in the bathroom, and a fantastic private terrace with a superb view over beautiful countryside and Mont Ventoux. The attention to detail in the decor and design is amazing, whilst still ensuring this feels comfortable and homely. From the moment we arrived all was wonderful. Eric and Eric are exceptional hosts, with such a warm welcome and and friendly and supportive attitude. They met us at our car and helped with luggage, they explained everything in our room, the layout of the guest areas (use of lounge, refrigerator with honesty bar full of chilled drinks, the offer to store our wine purchases if we needed - plus bike storage for those that are more energetic than we were that holiday - the wonderful breakfast terrace and so on). All this before serving us with a welcome drink at the pool side. Eric and Eric have 'the best' attitude and it's this that adds additional value to an already sensational property. They have the right balance of service/enthusiasm, without being over bearing. They shared their knowledge of the area, suggesting towns we might want to visit, and itineraries that made sense for the time we had available. They are obviously 'foodies' and their restaurant recommendation was spot on. They were also honest in telling us where we may struggle to find 'better places' to eat in areas we visited. The breakfast was fantastic. Home made yogurt and jams, freshly cooked pancakes and eggs, fresh fruit, locally produced apricot juice (delicious) and great quality bread, croissants and coffee. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I can't wait to return and to take our friends as well.
