Hotel Casela

Both our twin rooms had problems, I'm afraid. The first floor corner room suffered badly from the very noisy roads it overlooked, while mine (opening onto a quiet dining terrace used only at lunch times) had little ventilation and a very cramped toilet/shower room. So why the relatively good rating? The staff are delightful. Secondly, the owners have obviously put their heart and soul into the place, and it makes the most of its unpromising location. The bedrooms and the dining room are decorated with flair. The beds were very comfortable, and the fast free WiFi worked beautifully. There were nice touches like a box of boiled sweets in the bedroom. Breakfast was good, though perhaps a little expensive. I understand that the food at lunchtime is very good, local and fresh, but sadly we were not able to sample it in the time available. I hovered between a rating of 3 or 4. A mere 3 seemed mean. I sincerely wished I could have given full marks because of the staff, but though the owners have made the most of this traditional old roadside hotel and bar, they are ultimately handicapped by that noisy main road and a few poor pieces of rebuilding like the terrace rooms' lack of air. If road noise does not worry you at all, or you can get a nice room away from the noise, you will enjoy your stay for sure.
