A L'Oree Du Lin

This was a short, five day trip for a birthday celebration that was booked only a couple of weeks before departure. I stumbled upon the area of Étretat on Instagram through looking at locations on the north east coast of France and was instantly drawn to its beautiful surroundings. Instantly, I started searching for hotels in the area, all a bit too pricey so expanded my search to slightly more inland. This is when I was greeted by this pretty B&B. I read the reviews which were all very positive and myself and my husband instantly booked the accommodation. I was ever so slightly nervous because we both speak very little French, but upon arrival, the nerves disappeared and were replaced by joy. The host, Emilie is so welcoming and speaks English very well, with only a few minor language barriers. Nevertheless, I wish my French was as good as her English! The house is wonderful and adorned with colourful flowers. It’s location, is rural and quiet, but with good access to the surrounding areas. Inside, there is a communal kitchen where you can use the facilities if you wish so long as you clean up after yourselves. The kitchen also houses a 10 seater table where all guests convene for a well laid continental breakfast. Each day Emile prepares breakfast ready for when you wake and as a special treat there is also a different home baked cake or cookies!! And they are delicious! Again, I was a little nervous about eating with strangers but really there was no need. Everyone we met and spoke with were so interesting, it was an added bonus to everyday. We have made friends with people from Germany and spoken with guests from France, Netherlands and Canada. It really is a treat! We stayed in the Brick Room on the first floor which is very nicely decorated with a comfortable double bed, and immaculately clean. There are shutters rather than blinds, which makes the room pitch black in the evening, perfect for sleeping. We visited many Upper Normandy attractions in Étretat, Fecamp, Veule Les Rosés, Rouen and even Honfleur recommended to us by Emilie, all which we thoroughly enjoyed. We are so grateful for Emilie’s hospitality and I’m so glad we took a chance on this accommodation. We usually stay in hotels, but this has been the most perfect holiday and experience France. I highly recommend staying here. It’s great value for money too! We will definitely be back.
