Logis Saint Aubin

Épiré is as lovely a French village as you will ever see. In the very heart of Épiré stands the Logis Saint Aubin. For my wife and I it was "Somewhere in time' experience. As we opened the ancient portals we could almost hear the music from the movie. We could have been a 1860's couple, say solid French upper-middle class, notary perhaps, visiting their cousin Alix for the christening of a new born member of the family. Alix De La Gillardaie, our host and proprietress of the Logis today could have been that long ago cousin. She has the warmth, the caring, the understated elegance for the role. Our room was vast and comfortable, the salon made you want to just sit and let the past come to you. Garden was restful, meals were inventive, dishes captured the feel of the terroir perfectly just as did the Savennières wines. It was all too short. we were touched by a kind of magical feel. As we crossed the courtyard the 'Somewhere in time' theme back. This is something to be experienced and more than once. Thank you Alix. The french Republic should award you the Legion d'Honneur for serving your country with such distinction!
