I highly recommend this characteristic hotel in the tranquil and picturesque village of Carennac which makes an excellent base for visiting the numerous points of interest in the area. Much appreciated is the fact that the room prices this summer remained very reasonable and did not reflect the inflationary tendencies present in most touristic places. Bonus points for cleanliness and the warm, friendly welcome of our hostess. Yes, we shall return! 
A suggestion: try to book a room facing the Dordogne River for a very pleasant view.

The hotel and the village around it are beautiful. The hotel overlooks the river - our room allowed us to open the windows and hear the water below.  Cannot say enough good things about the owners who really made our stay special.  They helped with everything from ongoing travel arrangements to first aid - and both are amazing chefs.  Best meal of our trip!  We felt very welcome and our stay was like visiting with friends.

This is our second visit to Carennac and our second visit to this restaurant. Classic French cuisine. Excellent sauces and spectacular flavours. The entree was terrific. A raw diced salmon cake topped with a melon sorbet. An unusual and tasty flavour. Main course was a spin on a shepherds pie but with diced duck confit instead of ground lamb. It was all really good.

This was a return visit for us to the Fenelon after a gap of 25 years.  The hotel has lost none of its charm and obviously the location remains perfect.  The food in the restaurant was the best we had in the local area.  The service was excellent and the staff friendly.  The hotel was very clean, including the pool area.  We slept very well in the comfy bed and with the help of the new shutters.

We had supper here, while staying nearby overnight. The dining room is large and fairly old-fashioned (in a good way!), and the staff are friendly and attentive. We chose dishes from the well-priced daily menu, and a pitcher of local wine. All very delicious. We chose not to include the cheese course, but when we later saw someone have it at another table, we really wished we’d ordered it, too! 

We booked this inn via a tour; it was a nice surprise.  The staff could not have been more helpful.  The location is ideal (although Carennac is a very small 'hamlet'), and the dinning room was a great addition. Highly recommended

Wandering around Carennac looking for a restaurant that was open, we stumbled across this one.

Excellent value of 20 euros for entree, play, dessert, and fromage. Delicious pichet of local wine. Simple but beautifully cooked and good service. 
Our table enjoyed foie gras,  salmon, soup, steak and the best confit de canard! 

Excellent cheese plate and lovely poached pear, and Apple gateau.

So good we returned later in the week! 

As well as an incredible location, and exceptional food, nothing was too much trouble for the charming owner Elodie. She went out of her way to help us get the best out of our stay. Fantastic service!

This is a 2* hotel and some of the rooms reflect this. They are simple and a bit dated, but clean and quite adequate. Our room was standard, but there are some comfort rooms available which may be different. There is central heating and a large fan was available in our room. We didn't need either. Extra bedding and pillows were also provided. We found the bed and pillows very comfortable. There was a simple bathroom with a separate toilet. The towels are a rather thin, but they can be changed every day if required. The bedroom and bathroom were cleaned every day. Our room had an external shutter. Some rooms had curtains. There was also a sun awning over the window. There is a pool with chairs and sunbeds. Private parking is available. Carennac is a delightful village with cafes and a few shops. 
Now to the food. The restaurant offers really good food. A large group of us stayed 6 nights and had different 4 course meals served every evening. The cheese board had at least 8, maybe 10, different cheeses to choose from. Extra bread and water were put on the table as soon as needed. The kitchen was very good about coping with the various food dislikes, intolerances and allergies. The staff also remembered who couldn't eat what. An excellent packed lunch was also available. 
I would stay here again and would strongly recommend anyone staying in the area to eat in the restaurant. Just make sure you are hungry as the portions are generous.

I loved this place, not because it was fancy but because it was so representative of the wonderful experiences we had with family-owned hotels and restaurants in the Dordogne. Compared to the chain hotels and restaurants in the US, this is a 5-star establishment. 

A great amenity for me at the Hotel Fenelon was its lovely pool, which provided a splendid antidote to the hot, July Dordogne weather.
