Maison Sans Frontière

Having wanted to visit Carcassonne for years, I was lucky to have the chance to finally go--and luckier still to find this place. I definitely want to go back to Carcassonne some day, and will be sad if I don't get to stay here again. The location of this place can't be beat. It's just five minutes from the train station, which is where most people end up when they arrive. While there is certainly a draw to staying in the old city itself, it is better to stay in a place close to the station for more reasons than can be named here. The experience of this B&B is very much like staying with a French family--which is pretty much what you will be doing, as the proprietors live there and it was originally a home for a family with at least four kids. Breakfast consists of a traditional French breakfast, complete with jams and jellies literally home made by the owner's mother-in-law. (Most of the negative reviews of this place seem to come from people expecting a five-star place--but why they would expect this from a B&B is beyond me.) The hosts were very warm and welcoming. Get to know them! You won't regret it. They were very helpful in their suggestions, and sent me to some great restaurants and sights. To be fair, though, I am a fluent French speaker and there was no language barrier. I did get the impression that there is more of a language barrier for non-French speakers. While there, I did translate some between Monsieur and some of his English-speaking guests, which seemed to help everyone out. In short, stay here. You won't be sorry!
