Le Gambrinus - Restaurant, Chambres d’hôtes et Gîtes

A great little place to stay, just off the Alsace wine route. We had an apartment on the first floor, just to the left of the entrance to the main building which dates from the 18th century. This consisted of two bedrooms (one double, one twin), a kitchen, living room and bathroom. All was in very good condition and beautifully clean. The kitchen was well supplied with equipment and there was a TV in the living room. A minor weakness was that the wifi signal wasn't strong enough to reach the flat, but it was OK in the main building, where we had breakfast. The breakfast was excellent, with a nice choice of fruit, yoghurt, cheese, meats, bread and jam. But the real star attraction is the restaurant/bar at night, with its superb tartes flambees (like pizza, but rectangular and without tomato). These came out of the wood-fired oven fantastically hot and crispy, served on a slate, to be eaten with fingers. Delicious! There's a great atmosphere in the bar too, which is centuries old and contains an ancient Alsace ceramic stove in the corner. It's good value and highly recommended.
