La Marotière

My husband and I stayed here one night while on an extended bicycle trip in the Marne valley. We were very comfortable at this place, and in fact it turned out to be our favorite overnight spot on the whole trip, primarily because the innkeeper was so gracious and helpful. The house itself is big and interesting because it seems like a home, with personal details in the breakfast room and other areas. Our room on the second floor (Elysée) was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The wi-fi worked, even on the second floor. The small fridge had cold drinks (for purchase), and we appreciated this after a full day of cycling. We can recommend Madame Giraud’s champagne brand, too. We arrived much later than we had intended, but Madame gave us a relaxed and pleasant welcome. I agree with an earlier reviewer, who described her as “unfazed.” Our stay was on a holiday weekend and local cafes were closed, but Madame helped us place an order for a pizza delivery and made sure that we had what we needed. We cannot say enough about how much her attitude and helpfulness made us feel welcome. The house is an older house, with a lovely garden. If you expect polished, updated décor, you may feel this place has faded glory. But you would be missing a treat. We can recommend a stay here.
