Villa Itsas Mendi

My partner and I stayed here at the beginning of September for 4 nights and chose it because of its fantastic setting and proximity to Bidart and Biarritz. We weren't disappointed, the house is set in lovely gardens with a very clean pool, which we had to ourselves most of the time. You can walk to the beach and if like us were without a car it is about a 40 minute walk into Bidart or around 15 Euros in a taxi. There are two supermarkets around 15 minutes walk away (turn right onto main road, then when the road splits stay left then take the next left, don't bother with the camp shop across the way unless desperate as it is poorly stocked and much more expensive. The accommodation is charming. Our room overlooked the pool and the beautiful view and had a massive bathroom. Yes it is basic but has everything you need and is kept spotlessly clean. You hopefully haven't come to such a beautiful place to sit in your room anyway. There is a fridge in the lobby where you are allowed to keep your own food and drink which is handy for the fantastic and very cheap wine you will want to purchase! The wifi is tempermental and it does go off at night, (well at least I think that's what Marie said) which is a little baffling but only a very minor criticism. Breakfast is very nice and quite reasonable for the 7 euros but you may want to forgo it once you have checked out the supermarkets and although the campsite shop is expensive its quite handy for a coffee in the morning - there is none in the room. The real star of the accommodation is the fantastic Marie. She appears to run the place single handed and does so with a smile and great kindness. My French is very basic but with Marie's patience and the help of google translate we got by just fine. She very kindly waited up late for us to arrive on the last flight from London and even offered to iron a dress for me so I could go to a wedding not looking like a tramp and helped us arrange a taxi to the airport. I was genuinely sorry to say goodbye, I enjoyed my stay so much. If you are looking for a more authentic less touristy taste of France then you cant go wrong with this charming little hotel.
