We have been welcomed at Iisakki Village by such a warm-hearted and friendly team, which allowed us to experience one of the best weeks we've ever had. The team at the reception, the guides and the restaurant crew make this lovely place an unforgettable memory. They put so much love and effort in providing a comfortable atmosphere in the accommodation, doesn't matter if it is the glass villa or the guest house, both highly recommendable by the way, in the restaurants and on the outside. We booked nearly all winter activities we could get and did not regret to experience a good taste of Finnish lifestyle. Even though it was not cheap, but this is not what you're searching for when visiting Scandinavia. And the guides really made a great job, everything was so organized. And after a long day of activities, we have been pleased with dinner, which made us feel like eating in a high class restaurant. My wife and me are thankful having met such great people and that we got the chance to discover this lovely place.

Amazing Finnish Winter

We spent two nights in the glass villa and we're thrilled. The glass house is Nordic in simple design and offers a fantastic view of the surrounding nature. It must be a great experience when the northern lights appear. Breakfast is okay - for dinner we had to leave the premises because the restaurants were closed. There's nothing in the immediate area - but we found it in Ruka. It's a shame we got the idea to barbecue too late.

A Look into Nature

The glass ceiling hut stay was very nice although there was on snow on the top pf the ceiling.
The food was bad and did not match at all with the quality of accommodation.  It was supposed to be a three course dinner but turned out to be a buffet  The taste was uninteresting and reminded of office meals. The waitress warned that one should not take too much so that they would not run out  of food (this happened in the very beginning). Additionally the people were put into a tiny room to eat and that was not very pleasant during covid19.

Nice accommodation but eat somewhere else

Just got back today after the most incredible holiday ever!  

We stayed in the Glass Village and it was just absolutely magical! Pulling the curtains open in the morning to such views that are out of this world and falling asleep every night looking at stars. 

It was very cold like -20 cold but we made sure to layer up. 

There is a restaurant that we only ate at for breakfast due to having other arrangements in place for meals but breakfast was a lovely start to the morning with loads of different options available. 

There is also a Ski bus that takes you to Ruka but make sure you get the timetable otherwise you may be waiting a while. The bus was €4 pp 1 way which is a decent price and it drops you off pretty much in the village centre. There are taxi numbers and we ended up in a taxi one afternoon and it was at a cost of around €27. 

Would defo recommend this and would stay here again!

First Winter Getaway!

We spent two nights in one of the glass houses. These are in the middle of the forest, which we liked very much. Also, the houses are beautifully and comfortably furnished. The staff at the reception were very friendly. Unfortunately, there was no way to go to eat in the Iisakki Village. Presumably the restaurants were closed due to Corona or season. One night we decided to go to Ruka and the other night to Kuusamo. We can highly recommend this accommodation.

A nice stay in the middle of the forest

This place is out of this world! We stayed two night and really enjoyed our cabin. It felt amazing to have such an amazing view over the lake and later watch stars from the bed through the glass ceiling at night. Super quality! 
Also, there’s an area to make fire.
Restaurant and breakfast we’re wonderful! 
We also took a kayak on the lake and enjoyed a nice afternoon kayaking.

Amazing! Loved every minute!

I made a last-minute reservation for their Iisakki Guest house, for which I needed a common accommodation (a baby crib; my son cannot sleep safely in an adult bed) that has never been a problem for me in other lodgings. I called to cancel the next day immediately after I read an email from the guest house that they were unable to meet my needs and was told I would have no issue canceling on booking.com. Long story short, Ruka Safaris refused my cancellation and charged me full price for the room after I had already committed to another hotel. Further inquiries in writing and on Facebook from me and from a customer service assistant from booking.com went unanswered. This has caused me financial stress and lack of sleep, and I feel incredulous that I was treated in such an unprofessional manner. Honestly, fewer than 24 hours elapsed between when I attempted to make the reservation and when I told the hotel that I needed to cancel because they were unable to accommodate my need, so this treatment seems ridiculous.

If you have children or need any sort of accommodation, I would advise you to take your business elsewhere. As for me, I will be sticking to hotel chains in the future, where at least I can expect professional interactions with management.

Unprofessional management ruined the trip for me

We were celebrating our anniversary at the Glass Village. The village was very tidy and gorgeous. 
Service was excellent and so friendly. 
The restaurant dinner surprised positively.
I can recommend it. ❤️



Glass Village

During a group trip, I spent a week in the house of Luppolinna. Although the rooms are rather small and spartanly decorated - but you were also here to talk in the group and enjoy the many outdoor activities. The village is a bit out of the way. Shopping or other activities are in Ruka, a short taxi ride (about 20 EUR). Or as an alternative to the ski bus, which, however, travels very rarely.

I stayed at the Iisakki glass village with my partner for 3 nights mid December as a package with Tui. This was the first time I had been on a cold winter holiday and I couldn’t find the level of detail I was after regarding the glass village and the excursions, as well as what Tui have planned, so I hope this review helps you make the most of your time in this magical place. We had at least a foot or 2 of snow and temps around -3, so fairly manageable but some tips below to help if this is also your first time on a snowy cold holiday. 

Warm clothing
Tui pick you up from the airport in a coach and take you to the Ruka ski resort, where you can get your warm overalls, gloves, boots etc.
I found that I preferred the gear given to us by the glass village - it fit better, was newer (some items such as socks brand new) and generally looked less “worn”. My other half preferred the outerwear from the ski resort because the pockets didn’t have Velcro so were easier to use with gloves on, but guess that’s just personal preference. 

Eating
We had B&B rate, so we ate once at the ski resort (quite pricey, £8 for a bottle of beer). Most excursions include a sausage (don’t expect a roll!) and a hot drink, with a cinnamon bun.
The kitchenette is supplied with washing up liquid, a couple of plates, bowls, wine glass and cutlery. 
There is a kettle, microwave, filter coffee machine, fridge, and electric hob.
We packed some things to bring with us such as noodles, pots of porridge etc and picked up wine at duty free which we were glad we did. 

Getting to ski resort
There is a bus which is £3 each way pp, and several restaurants to choose from, although pricey. There are sledges for hire (£5, or £10 to buy from the shop called “Market”. 

Excursions 
You can book with Tui, or directly with the glass villa company called Ruka Safaris. We booked the latter online, but do check your Tui itinerary first as they put on some good activities for kids included in their package price. If you are an adult couple then give them a miss and plan your own thing. We went to the Tui Festive Finale dinner which was advertised as a 3 course meal, which was soup, packet mash and some veg, and two slices of cold turkey. Pudding was a berry sponge. You could buy drinks, with free water and fruit juice for kids. In hindsight we would have preferred to have cooked something ourselves in the glass villa, but if you have kids with you then its a nice option.

Excursions through the glass village - Ruka Safaris 
For pick up just walk to the glass village reception ten mins before the activity start time. You can have a drink while you wait and if you don’t have the right clothes they will kit you out. 

Huskies - a must do, we did a 4 hour excursion and loved it. They are easy to handle and steer themselves for the most part. We were given a blanket but it still gets pretty cold if you’re the passenger so I’d advise those hand/feet warmers which activate when you break them open. Pop these in BEFORE you set off so they have time to work, otherwise it’s too late and the cold sets in. 
If it’s snowing, I’d recommend a balaclava to protect your face from the wind chill. 

Snowmobile - enjoyed this too, we did two hours 2-4. I’d suggest the 10am slot instead so it’s daylight the whole time to make best view of the woodland and of the experience. Same applies regarding keeping warm as the above with the huskies. The handlebars are heated; so it’s only really needed for the passenger. 

Snow wagon northern lights tour - do not do this one! Waste of time and if you’ve done the snowmobile then this is really disappointing. Could be okay if you have kids with you who are too young for the snowmobile. You’re basically sat in a see through plastic bubble with approx 8-12 others. The “windows” kept steaming up so much we were given towels to wipe the windows every few minutes. You cannot really see out properly due to the forest and I think you’d have more chance of seeing the northern lights looking out from the glass village! We just laughed it off and walked back at the first opportunity we got! 

All in all, a great trip and would thoroughly recommend!
