I stayed in Hostel Lilja for one night August 2015.This hostel is close to the center but it is still quiet. It was very cosy and nice. My room was simple but clean. I loved the breakfast served in their cafe. Very good breads and freshly baked cake.  Very good value for your money!

I booked this place cause it was one of the cheapest in Pietarsaari as travelling down the coast. We signed in at the cafe as we arrived well after the reception was closed. Getting the key from the key box was easy enough and room was really nice. Decor in the cafe and rooms were really nice, courtyard really enjoyable for breakfast etc. 

Toilet was quite dirty during the time of visiting. I agree, people in the kitchen will have a full view of naked ladies showering though! :D 

We booked breakfast beforehand and it looked like there was only 2 others besides us who had booked it. Breakfast was very poor for the value of it. Even if there was only four of us, would have been nice to see a plentiful breakfast table with more than 1 egg per person. The cafe was really nice inside, so I though breakfast would be nice too but it was unfortunately very simple. The staff totally ignored that everything was finished on the table.

We stayed one night in Hostel Lilja with our family (2 adults + 1 baby) during august 2014. Hostel was clean and really quiet. The atmosphere is really enjoyable, there is a nice yard where you can enjoy the Finnish summer and have a cup of coffee. The shared showers, bathrooms and kitchen were in top shape and we had nothing to complain.

I have visited in this Hostel once before, somewhere mid 2000's and there has not been many changes since that... and that is not a bad thing.

I booked this hostel after reading the rave reviews online.  My friends and I shared a triple room for one night on our way up the coast of Finland.  We checked in at the cafe and received keys to our room.  I would have to say that it is one of the most nicely decorated hostels I've ever stayed in.  It has a vintage feel.  It's clean and has some great common spaces including lounge rooms, big tables, and a lovely kitchen.  

My biggest complaint would be the women's showers.  There are two stalls with no doors for privacy.  The bathroom is just off the kitchen.  If someone were to open the door to walk into the ladies room while someone was showering, people would definitely be able to see naked ladies.  I think it's probably a cultural thing as I know Finns are more relaxed about this stuff, however it made my friend and I cringe.  Luckily we stayed when it was quite quiet around the hostel, so we took individual showers and locked the door for privacy.
