This is my second time staying here and I love the character of the place . There is a beautiful old fashioned wooden lift where you have to pull the metal grate open . Then the actual hot is like staying in a traditional apartment from years ago - there is a beautifully decorated kitchen .

Love this place 

I had booked 2 nights through the webpage of Hotel Kongressikoti, from 28th of October till the 30th. Due to a delayed flight I was not at their door until around 23:15, after the reception had closed at 22:00. I called the hotel, but they told that they would not let me in. (Had to leave and book another hotel for that night).
Received an email this morning telling that the booking was cancelled, and that I could not have my payments returned.
I contacted them by phone and email today, the 29th, and told that off course I would like to spend my 2nd night there. (Both nights were prepaid weeks ago.)
They would not let me spend my 2nd night there, and they would not make any refunds, I was told.  This is not like a normal hotel would act, and not the policy of serious businesses. 
Not service-minded at all!  Be very careful with Hotel Kongressikoti. I unfortunately can't recommend anyone to have anything to do with this Kongressikoti.

Total lack of service and understanding. Avoid Hotel Kongressikoti when you have other options.

This reminded me of an old fashioned boarding house.  It's a large converted apartment with 11 or so rooms designated for guests.  There's a public kitchen, two bathrooms and one shower that's shared by all the rooms.  There's also a washer and dryer. My room was tiny and looked out onto a smokers' balcony; fortunately, there were no smokers while I was there.  When I visited in mid-September, the place was half full, and the bathrooms and shower were never busy.  Though it's old and somewhat worn, it's scrupulously clean and was quiet.  The woman who met me at the elevator to let me in and give me a key was pleasant and chatty.

As I get older, I value comfort more than I used to, so I'm not sure if I would stay here again.  However, it was secure and I slept well, and it was very reasonably priced for the location in central Helsinki.   Helsinki is a very expensive place to visit, and it's a solid four stars for the budget traveler.

mine was a very small room, noisy at night, there were no signs to direct you to the reception which was on the 5th floor, the reception was open only specific hours, and the receptionist did not speak english

Prior to staying at the hotel I sent them an email inquiry to check if it is possible to get access to the hotel outside the check-in times. I got a reply saying that YES, this was possible, with clear instructions on how to do this. First I had to send a code they gave me in a text message. This let me gain access to the building itself. Then the instructions stated that I was to take the lift to the 5th floor which I did. I located the door of the hotel. The instructions clearly said (and I quote): "Please take elevator to get 5th floor, there is the entrance to the hotel (the door will be not closed on the lock)"

However, the door WAS closed "on the lock". I tried calling the hotel multiple times with no reply. I was on my own in the city at 1am with nowhere to go which naturally made me feel unsafe. I started calling around other hotels and the only one I was able to contact at that time was very expensive. I was naturally very distressed and had no choice but to book it.

The next few days I spent calling Kongressikoti but no one ever picked up. I have since emailed them in both Finnish and English just in case asking for a refund and compensation for having to stay in the other hotel as despite their promises (which i have in writing), I was left with nowhere to stay.

Shocking and irresponsible, avoid at all costs.

Cleaning, none (3 nights)
2 toilets, 1 shower for 11 rooms, wasnt a problem with only 3-4 rooms occupied.

Very central

I did a booking for 5 days, but I had problem in my flight and I couldn’t do my check in in the first day on time. I show up in the hotel in the day after to do my check in, I pressed the doorbell several times until a guest open the door for me, but there wasn’t staff there. I was there for 2 hours waiting any staff appear and do my check in.. but nobody showed up!! I contacted Hotels.com to help me and sort it out but I still waiting and now I want my money back because today is my third in the city without hotel!

THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER BEEN BEFORE!!

15 minutes walk from bus central, there's a tramway right in front, just accross lutherian church, 5 min from port and central market, 10 min to design district 
Not too Noisy, discret staff.
I was there for two nights. 

Worth it for price and location

I stayed here for one night en route from Paris to the north of Finland, having chosen and booked online. Finding my way in was not straightforward and it was not at all what I was expecting but my room was clean if small and basic. The shared facilities did not prove a problem and they were clean and correct. The rooms are few in number and the other guests, at least during my short stay, discreet. I appreciated the kitchen where coffee was freely available along with plentiful quantities of English digestive biscuits and it struck me that everything was at hand if you wanted to prepare a meal, use a microwave or eat a takeaway. The location is central and the area around the Kongressikoti attractive and interesting.

I would say the hotel is good value if a little unconventional as well as perhaps inconvenient in terms of staff presence.

Not exactly your average hotel

This is truly the worst experience I ever had throughout my extended stay in Europe. I actually stayed at this place back in 2014 when I first arrived in Helsinki. I am compelled to write this review today because back then it left quite an impression but I never figured out what to make of it. 

On the day of check out, I was sitting at the common area next to the reception reading my map of Helsinki to plan my next steps. It was raining outside. In the afternoon, the staff came in yelling at me to leave. She said, "You have checked out 2 hours ago, you should have left this place. You should not be here, we are going to show the guests around, it is not good for you to be here!"
