49 reviewsOn our way back home we needed to stay one night somewhere. Savonlinna was fully booked (Opera Festival) so Punkaharju was a good option. This hotel turned out to be great. It is located near a lake in Punkaharju ridge area. It used to be a veteran rehab centre and still the clientele were mostly elderly people or people with disabilities. Our room was on the second floor. Air conditioning was good, as it turned out to be a hot day. The hotel offers sunny terrace next to the rooms and while the building is very big we found a direct route from parking lot to our room. The nature around the hotel is stunning: pine forests, water. There are lot of activities outdoors and Savonlinna is mere 30 min away. The best part was swimming pools. While the place is not a spa (no water slides or jacuzzis) it was perfect for kids. And not too crowded. We ended up being there two nights and would have been longer if we did not schedule pressure to return home. The hotel was good but some things still needed to get 5 stars from me :-) - breakfast was quite simple and plain, a bit "hospital like" - we skipped restaurant lunch and dinner, they were not match for the price - room was small and quite expensive (note: the hotel in the area were fully booked due to Opera festivals and this was maybe among the last rooms they would find). We will definitely be back!
