Summer Hotel Elli

We stayed there for 2 nights. The room did not have a TV, contrary to the description. The room was hot during the night and there was a slight smell in the bathromm.
However the reception people were very friendly and they delivered us a bigger mirror. The best experience was when I was looking a football game at the time the bar was closed. They offered me to look the rest of the game in a conference room. Awesome!

Exceptionally friendly service

Hotel is located only a 10 min walk from centre, and double that from the railway station. Limited parking on premises (three spots on courtyard), otherwise street parking seem to be plentyful by the hotel. Friendly staff. When I visited I was the only customer, and they didn't want to supply breakfast, and gave me a discount on the room price. Small room, tiny bathroom/shower. But for the price ok for an overnight stay. Room had small kitchenette, but could not find any pots or pans. 

Affordable summer ho(s)tel

We arrived by train in Joensuu in the evening and took a taxi to the hotel.  It is outside the city but still within walking distance.  We had picked this hotel because it was one of the conference hotels so was close to the university, which was important for us.  The staff at reception are very pleasant and helpful.  We filled out the paperwork and went to our room, which consisted of two twin beds.  The room was clean and maintained throughout our stay.  There was no television, which was fine with us but may be an issue for others.  The only issue we had with the room was trying to figure out the shower (oh, no telephone either so you can't call to get instructions).  In case you do book a room there, turn on the hot water in the sink and when the temperature is where you want it, pull down on the spigot and the shower will come on.  We've stayed in hotels all over the world and this was a first.  Two other points - there are two saunas for the guests and there is a pizza restaurant/bar next to the lobby.  Breakfast is included and consisted of cold meat, hard boiled eggs, rolls, bread for toast, cereal, cookies, cucumbers, and deli meat.  If you are not looking for fancy, this is a good place to stay.
