I very much enjoyed staying at this hotel on a work trip.  The rooms are comfortable and clean, without being flash (probably 3* at best), and the room is medium/large with a small separate bathroom.  There is a deck outside also.  The grounds are spacious.  What makes this hotel is the restaurant - it has a great walk through the mangroves to the restaurant, which is set on an inlet from the sea which is very calm.  You can sit on the deck and have a peaceful meal from a decent range of meal options.
The hotel staff and owners are friendly and helpful.  A very relaxing stay.

So much Serenity!

When we last visited Kosrae, 23 years ago, we stayed at the Pacific Treelodge and loved it. The location is beautiful and serene --- on the edge of a mangrove swamp and across the street from a beach --- and the rooms had everything that we needed. Although the lodge (with its associated dive shop) is now run by an Italian/American couple, rather than local folks, it remains wonderful.

Mark and Maria, along with their team of local help, do an excellent job managing the place. They are pleasant, communicative (both by e-mail and in person), friendly, and organized. They are also extremely helpful in setting up local activities, such as diving/snorkeling trips and land excursions,with great guides. (Carlos and Salik are both very knowledgeable and accommodating.) Beyond the lodge, they are active in promoting ecological awareness, the island, and responsible tourism.

The rooms are arranged in duplex cabins. They're nothing fancy, but they're clean, and everything works. The air-conditioning is quiet, efficient, and remote controlled. The beds are comfortable, with foam toppers on the mattresses. Internet connections, albeit a bit slow, work; there's a separate connection for each room. Showers are good, with a decent hot water supply. Drinking water --- to refill your own bottle or one of the two glass ones supplied by the lodge --- is available without charge at the associated restaurant. Breakfast is included in the room rate (see separate review of Bully's Restaurant), as is kayak use.

A Lovely, Peaceful Place on a Lovely, Peaceful Island

The Pacific Tree Lodge was an excellent place. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The view from the restaurant was beautiful and the food was great! You couldn’t ask for more than eating wonderful food with a beautiful view. The staff was extremely friendly. Maria was wonderful. She always wanted to make sure I was happy and had everything I needed or wanted. It is a great place to stay. Maria also arranged several tours with guides for me. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and provided me with wonderful experiences as I explored the island. My visit was exceptional. If I ever make it back to Kosrae, I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else!

My stay at Pacific Treelodge Resort

A bit off the beaten path, and stunningly gorgeous. Kosrae isn't easy to get to, but once you get here, it's quiet, relaxing and unspoiled.

The Treelodge consists of six two-room bungalows across from the ocean on a spit of land between the ocean and a mangrove channel. There is a boardwalk through the mangroves to Bully's restaurant on the channel.

Service was excellent, the rooms were comfortable, with refrigerators and a microwave. Annabelle, at the front desk, helped with a rental car (essential, as none of the handful of guides have cars). She was also able to get us snorkel equipment from the dive shop at no cost (the masks weren't great though...).

Bully's has good food, and they work well with whatever ingredients they have on hand. Stick with the local specialties such as ahi tuna, breadfruit and taro and you'll have amazing food. There are kayaks available for the taking.

They'll also hook you up with Salik Waguk, one of a couple of guides on the island. He knows the island intimately and will take you to ruins, waterfalls and through the rain forest with his machete and immense knowledge of the local flora and fauna. He'll show you taro and tapioca and wild ginger, and how to get water or make a rope from vines. He'll show you how to make sounds across great distances with the roots of a Ka tree and a stone and where the fruit bats live and get you fresh tangerines from a tree. He's also personable and friendly and one of the best out there.

A gem of a place on a gem of an island

This serene little haven is a jewel hidden within the jungles of my Micronesia. Enjoy a $10 special every evening at the restaurant hidden in the back of the rain forest. The rooms have air-conditioning, hot water, all your basic needs are met. The restaurant has refillable coffee in bed American sized mugs, and also offers a large selection of authentic Italian meals. The staff are professional and friendly. They  always willing to help you book a local, knowledgeable Guide who is passionate about his country. This is one of my favorite places to stay in all of Micronesia. 

The food, the quiet, the amazing staff

On our way to visit all countries in the world we spent four nights on Kosrae and the Pacific Treelodge. The resort is quite basic but offers all you can ask for if you travel to Micronesia. Thanks to the helpful owner and host Maria, we felt very welcome and in spite of the rainy weather we had exciting days. The restaurant Bully's offers tasty food with a touch of Polynesia.
Besides running the resort Maria & Mark also are contributing a lot to preserve the precious environment on the island, very admirable. 

Welcoming 

Kosrae, Micronesia is off the radar screen for most people which is precisely why it such a wonderful destination. Staying at the Pacific Treelodge Resort makes it all the better!

We really didn’t know what to expect on this little dot of an island in the Pacific but found ourselves impressed by the warm reception we received, great service and delicious food at the Pacific Treelodge, along with the most amazing diving experience.

Maria and staff deliver the most personalized and friendly service. All of our travel stress melted away as soon as we landed on Kosrae, where we were greeted with flower crowns and transported to the resort. Maria sweetly arranged tours with local guides for us and had ample recommendations for what to do when we weren’t diving. The resort also has complimentary kayaks which we took out for a paddle through the mangrove swamps (just stay clear of the branches- as I ended up with the biggest spider I’ve ever seen briefly hitching a ride on my kayak!). I was also fortunate enough to join in the weekly yoga class offered by a volunteer instructor on the deck at Bully’s restaurant overlooking the mangroves. 

We also can’t say enough good things about Mark who made completing our open water dive certification a wonderful experience. We greatly enjoyed our four dives with him and Carlos as our boat captain. I think we are now spoiled for diving almost anywhere else!

The rooms are fairly basic but met our needs and are nicely air conditioned. The WiFi, being satellite, worked most of the time but speed and capabilities are somewhat limited (but hey, you’re on an island, take it as an opportunity to disconnect for a few days). Compared with the local housing on the island, this is “high class” living.

Lastly, the food at Bully’s exceeded expectations. I had seen a few photos posted online prior to our visit which don’t come close to doing the meals justice. The homemade taro bread is dense, nutrient-rich and truly delicious. I also can’t think of many places (okay, any other place), what I’ve had a complete crab dinner complete with rice, salad and taro bread for $10USD! The Kosraean fish soup and pumpkin curry are also worth ordering. 

Due yourself a favor and visit this gem in the Pacific!

A hidden gem in the Pacific

The rooms are well-equipted:  hot water, toiletries, good-sized mini refrigerator, remote controlled air conditioning, cable TV, WIFI, umbrellas, brochures and info on Kosrae, cordless phone with free local calls, and even a microwave in room 41 (not all rooms have a microwave).  Room 41, which was a single queen bed, also had a loveseat and coffee table which not all rooms have.  The owners have gone the extra mile with charming touches to make you feel extra welcome and at home, such as complimentary tangerines and flower crown upon arrival, and great assistance with coordinating local guides and drivers to see more of Kosrae.  The bread and pizza crust is baked fresh from scratch in house using taro, and is wonderful.  All the food is great.  One thing to be aware of is that beer and wine is not easy to come by in Kosrae.  Only a couple of stores on the island sell it, and the only beer is Heineken and Corona.  The Pacific Treelodge owners had Asahi beer from Japan as well as Budweiser and Blue Moon from the US for sale, but the inventory of good ones runs out fast.  The only white wines avaiable on the island are chardonnay and moscato.  Spirits are available at Mel’s Wine Rack on the island, as well as at the lodge.  The owners, Mark and Maria, are awesome.  You couldn’t have better hosts or scuba guides along with Carlos on the dive boat.  The coral in Kosrae is so unique and prolific and water temp ranges from 84-86 F.  There are some free range chickens on the Pacific Treelodge property and the roosters make quite a lot of noise crowing at 0400 hrs and 1800 hrs, so if you are a light sleeper, bring some ear plugs.  But you will be delighted by the sound of all the birds and the lovely mangrove.  I stayed 10 nights and was so relaxed and happy here.
